    Default 7950 GT or dx10?

I have decided to buy a new video card and I'm considering the 7950 cause I fear what the pricetags of the dx10 series will be,
if anyone can enlighten me about the prices of these series Id appreciate it.
Otherwise Ill just go for the 7950 GT, I think itll last a while.

Well, you have to remember that on top of a DX 10 card, there is also the £180 on vista to get DX10 in the first place. And developers will still make DX9 games for years to come, as the XBOX 360, and probably the PS3 are stil DX9, and they sell far more games than PC's, DX 10 will be a hinderance for cross platform development untill the consoles turn to DX10 which will be years, so going DX9 is probably the best thing to do.

Shaun, Direct X is an API... PS3 doesn't use DirectX, it uses its own (from what I hear extraordinarily confusing) API. Neither console will be able to use DX10, the 360 has moved towards a series of 'X' APIs/engines (such as the XNA), currently it uses DX9 though. In the console world, though, there is no DX10. DX9 will be around for a long time, though I'd perhaps wait until Vista launches and you may see a price drop in non-compatible cards (I myself will wait for Vista to upgrade my GPU, as my work would greatly benefit from a 64 bit OS).

I think the point Shaun of the Dead is trying to make is that the PS3 and Xbox 360 are using hardware that is is based around DX9 era technology.

But i think more developers are eager to make game for the new hardware and operating system. In a business point of view, the first the better and more known. Just like the console industri where hundreds of small company wants to release games on the console launch because if they wait they will be less known of and they dont get paid by the console developer .

Once DX10 is released,, all current card will go down in price, so you might want to wait for that.

When Big Bill of Microsoft says so. Either that or when Windows Vista is released next year.

Windows Vista is set for release in January of 2006 IIRC, and DX10 cards should be the GeForce 8000's and ATI X2000's, I think, as they are pushing out the last of their current generations.

If you have patience, wait a couple of more months.
Did you get an XFX with passive cooling? Does it stay on a nice temperature?
