Comments on special features in campaign
People, there are a couple of things that deserve being explained before you start a new campaign in Rome Medieval: Kingdoms. As you might know, this includes a script and a new system of traits & ancillaries. I will now give you some details that you should know...
Script
When starting a new campaign in Rome Medieval: Kingdoms, a script starts running. This script will help with balance of armies in some way, but its main effect is to introduce the
4 turns per year.
In order to activate the script, when you start a new campaign/reload a campaign game, click first on any of your settlements, and then click on the advisor. You will afterwards receive a message telling you the year and the turn number.
Although there is a way of deactivating the script, I strongly suggest that if you are playing a campaign, and want to reload a game/start a new one, you get out of the mod and get in again before doing so. In this way, the script is reset and you don't have to worry about anything.
Traits & ancillaries
Well, this is a bit more complex. There are 3 things that come to my mind now that you need to know:
- How to get a Crown/Corno Ducale for your new faction leader.
- How to gain favor from the Vatican.
- How to heal wounds from your characters.
These are the main features of the traits & ancillaries system, and they don't work as the regular traits & ancillaries. If you don't know how they work, you can experience some trouble when playing campaign and piss off...
Apart from these, there are plenty of other traits & ancillaries. I might explain the main groups afterwards.
How to get a Crown/Corno Ducale for your new faction leader.
When a new faction leader arises, in order to get his crown, he has to go to the original capital city and stay there for 1 turn (or at least, when changing turn, he must rest at that city). If you have lost the city, you'll have to recover it before your king can be recognized by his people.
If a faction leader does not receive a crown, he will receive negative traits and the rest of the generals & named characters will lose confidence on his capacity to reign.
In the case of the king of the Crusader States, if you take him to Jerusalem, he will also get the Great Cross, which will improve his abilities and influence, while reducing his movement points.
How to gain favor from the Vatican.
This only applies to catholic factions. When you start a new campaign, you will see that every christian family member will show a "trait" called "Relationship with the Vatican". At first, most of them will have it as "Neutral". It will depend on the acts of each of the characters if this relationship improves or gets worse.
Examples of good actions (for the eyes of the Vatican) would be: constructing churchs, staying at settlements with churchs, being an ally to Catholic factions (for the faction leader only), having the Pope in your faction (special ancillary), being victorious in battle over muslim factions, etc...
Examples of bad actions would be: attacking christian factions, being at war with them (for the faction leader), etc (I don't remember any other now

)
If a character becomes Excommunicated, he cannot recover from his status. He will gain an "Inquisitor" ancillary and be very easy to bribe, among other things...
How to heal wounds from your characters.
When a named character fights in battle, he gets the chance to be wounded. If he is wounded, he will receive a negative trait after the battle (i.e.: "Wounded"). If this happens, you have two possibilities: do nothing or try to heal the named character. If you do nothing, he might autorecover, or else, get worse. I wouldn't suggest this under normal circumstances... Also, he could get a permanent negative traits.
To heal a character, just take him to a settlement and make him rest there. Each turn there is a high probability that he recovers... although there is a little chance that he gets worse. But don't worry! People don't die here because of non healed injuries. They just become useless
Other things about traits and ancillaries.
There are plenty of new ancillaries, which you will be find while playing the game with different factions and at different locations in the map. I would like to talk about two groups: banners and relics.
- Banners: You can receive a banner from a specific order (e.g. Banner of the Templar order) when staying at specific settlements. Each of them will give their bearer bonus in battle or when managing a settlement.
- Relics: There are both Cristian and Muslim relics. Getting a relic is quite difficult, and they are limited in number... there are no two relics of the same kind in the map. And they give great morale boosts. A character can get a relic if he is a peregrin (travels a lot), and shows good virtue. He could also make it the easy way and get a fake relic, which will boost his popularity, but will make the troops' morale drop, as they know it's not a real relic.
