Mod help

Hello
I'm looking for a mod to play that's challenging, with different factions, units, etc. it doesn't matter which time period it's set in. If anybody can recommend a good mod that would be great. Also, how can I play vanilla but have mods installed on my pc at the same time?

there is sooooooooooooooo many mods that it is hard to recomend which is beter, but by my self maiby RTR (rome total realism) or SPQR (this would be more challenging)
to make several rtw games at once, just copy al vanila folder to new one, and you will get two games at once

I can recommend XGM-mod (Extended greek mod). One Rome, much bigger map and better greek factions, to make it short. I think it's harder than vanilla, really painful on hard difficulty.
I installed that mod just normally (Rome-folder) and I can still play vanilla.

yeap, that mod is very good too all mods are good

theres also eb which is definatly realistic but right now its only for 1.2. there next version 0.8 is going to be for 1.5
If you like medival times theres chrivalry total war which is for 1.5 or barbarian invasion 1.6
