Hey everyone,

I'm back with a new insane challenge. This time I'm going for the This is Total War steam achievement as Carthage on Legendary difficulty. To successfully get this achievement I have to declare war on everyone the moment I encounter them. So no trade partners or vassals. Hence the Total War. Carthage is a particularly difficult faction to do this with because they start off with 2 vassals and a spread out empire, which means you have to throw away the vassals and leave yourself open on all fronts.

Great stuff. I've watched the videos, and I must say it's more fun to watch you do that crazy challenge than to try and contend with the AI bugs myself right now, hah...

pfffffff, ive actually been trying to do this achievement myself, im playing as Rome atm, which to be honest isn't a very good idea, since i think in order to make progress quicker, you would need a faction that starts with a secure flank close to the campaign map edge. Also i must say, im playing it on "easy" with Rome, and its still quite tricky, ive beaten the game on legendary which is quite easy, but trying to go for this achievement on legendary will be a feat on its own. Carthage is a pretty good choice, once you have tied up the rear, you can lock down africa with a majority of your fleet, hopefully allowing your armies to either expand into spain, which i think would be a bad idea, or go further east and the use the campaign map edge. Also it can be hell for invading armies, making it easier to defend with fewer stacks there.

Also ive been tempted to subjagate a faction, but not sure if that will break my chances of getting the achievement, so currently remain at war with everyone for the time being. As Rome i find myself just trying to kill factions, and get them to merge into bigger factions, so i don't have to deal with to many enemy agents.

When playing for this achievement, you get to really see how critical your agents are.

Goodluck dude, was hoping to unlock this achievement first myself, but if you get it on legendary, it much more well deserved.

Currently on turn 73 myself with Sparta on Legendary trying this achievement. Going very good so far. I had some critical "all in" moments but now it looks like I am past the point of able to lose.

That is a very good question. They both have their share of strong enemies. But where Sparta has only one city but is easy to defend, Carthage has multiple cities with fragile defenses that are spread out across the map.

Hey Bigfootedfred, thanks for the thread at the other forum. Pretty good discussion there. I'll be getting another 3 episodes out over the next couple of days. I've recorded quite a bit past what you've seen, but I can't upload it all at once because I've almost maxed out my monthly upload limit. Only 2 more days until it resets.

I think the biggest mistake I made in this campaign is holding on to my Iberian settlements for dear life. I should have just abandoned it in hindsight. A string of boring AI stupid defensive battles are all that come of my holdings there.

Glad you're enjoying them. I've uploaded up to episode 9 now. Although I have played up to episode 30, but it takes ages for me to upload a single episode.

I think I reached a point now that its safe to say that the challenge is going to be successful. I doubt civil war will stop me. I hear patch 7 makes things a lot tougher though, so I'm going to have to do this challenge again with Bactria or something. Although I doubt Bactria is harder. I'd say one of the greek states or the Arverni might equal carthage in difficulty.
