Thanks I love the new map! Are the faction colours final, though? There is too much red I think

    Monferrato:

    Savoy:

    Ragusa:

Well yeah, too much red indeed Of course the faction colour should fit to the faction badge more or less, so you are restricted in your choices I I guess

Siena and Florence are also both white, I see Oh dear, those Italians did not really think about that...

You are speaking of the ultimate version?
Well, that is hardly to say at the current state of affairs.
I am busy finishing the units for the new Area of Recruitment system.
After that I will start on the Duchy of Savoy, which will also become the next preview.
    Please be patience

    Some suggest (from a italian)
Genuese, sub it with Genovese, Genoa with Genova and margravate of mantua with marchesato (ducato from 1530 to 1708) of mantova

    hope this can help

    Many thank's for your suggestions!
As you might notice we have already realized partly the Italian versions of the city names.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Though to change the faction names into Italian, I have to decline, since their names should remain understandable for all players.

Thanks for the Hafsids' preview I was just watching a game of the ACT Brumbies Rugby team when I saw the preview and it is interesting to note how popular horses are on badges throughout time and space

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Admittedly I had to google some stuff about the Hafsids since I don't know them that well, but that should make their inclusion even more intriguing. Did they make any forays into Italy during our period here by the way?

Also, does your change in username point to a coming mod about early medieval Britain?

    Thank you for your praise!
    How apt!
It seems so, though I am not even sure if it is their correct badge, since I could not find any proving sources about it...

No, that were the corsairs, which were not under the rule of the Hafsids. Nevertheless the Hafsids interacted on several occasion with Charles V. and the Ottomans, but for reason of gameplay/fun I am inclined to bend the history to our purpose

    Hahah
Actually, it would be really cool to revive the age around Y Gododdin and the Kingdom of Lothian, Bernicia and Co. The Last Kingdom's timeframe is more covering the Viking age. Though I am afraid the lack of time will be witholding me... :/
For the present I can only continue playing Brytonwalda!
So you would be lending me a hand if I would start on it?

Yep Okay, I will see how the Hafsids feature in the mod then

Well, if you would seriously start it one day, why not I would also be satisfied with Vikings included to be honest, since The Last Kingdom was a smoothly presented and entertaining mod, but any geography teacher would kill the developers would he see the map and there were only 12 factions I think. Since MTW2 allows 30- or 31 or 32 (?) including rebels and shadow factions I suppose?- you could include all the important actors:

1.- 7. The Seven Anglo- Saxon kingdoms (Wessex, Kent, Essex, Northumbria, Mercia, Sussex and East Anglia)
8.- 10. Welsh kingdoms, most famously Gwynedd and Powys and then either Dyfed, Glywysing and Gwent. If you would include all five, it would be 12 factions, but 10 should probably do for a small country like Wales.
11.-14. The other Brythonic/Celtic kingdoms: Cornwall, Strathclyde, Bernicia/Gododdin (as a Northumbrian vassal?), possibly Galloway or/and Rheged, at maximum we would have 17 factions now.
    15. Pictland, possibly divided into Fortriu (the most powerful kingdom), Fib (Fife) and Orkney (as a vassal of Fortriu). At maximum we have 20 factions now.
    16. Dalriada as the Irish Gaelic kingdom in Western Scotland
17.-22. The Irish kingdoms: Munster/Desmond, Connaught, Mide/Meath, Ulster (split into Northern Ui'Neill and Ulaid) and Leinster (At maximum we have 27 factions now).

So that would be 27 factions in the British isles, which would still allow room (even though it means more work) to add different Viking factions in some way or another, while all important players on the British isles are represented. If you go on Google maps and try to zoom in so the full British isles, but little of continental Europe are on the map, you would have the Shetlands and possibly the Faroes in the North (as starting locations for the Vikings, if there is nothing else, even though the Faroes were apparently inhabited by Irish monks until Norwegian vikings seized them after 800 AD. And Shetland was also conquered by Vikings in the 9th century, with a small and rather unknown native population. Interestingly Iceland was also a place where Gaelic monks lived before the Vikings came), but even the South West coast of Norway would be on it, including the Viking stronghold of Hordaland.
On the European mainland only the Low countries would be there, and could simply be turned into lands full of trading resources for the merchants if we do not aim to add any factions there or don't have enough slots anymore. Or we go further East, add a rump Frankish faction and Denmark to the map. This is all just some theoretical thinking, but it would be possible indeed to create a worthy successor to The Last Kingdom with far more details and a better map- in theory

I think, they will make Africa into a decent battlefield, especially since Africa was till the last version a kind of dead end

I did not expect that answer!
Well, yes Last Kingdom was good, but not for its settlement positioning. Adding all this faction would probably overload the map. I'd suggest to enlarge it, as I did with the one for TIW, and cut out the island of Britain, Ireland, up to Island, so that the new map is concentrated on the British Islands. This map should be large enough to bear all these faction. Especially in Wales, which was very fragmented
    Yes, 32 is correct.
Though I would like to start the campaign much earlier, about 500 or 600

Yes it would need a completely new map for sure, I meant that as well. It would be great though, you can also start a bit earlier and have Vikings etc. as late game threats or so, though I would also like that age But with 32 factions a lot would be possible indeed!

    Then that's settled
Yes, indeed, though this time frame is not called "the Dark Ages" without reason, so it might be difficult to get hands on proper resources

P.S. Do you know someone, fitting in one of our vacancies?

Sorry to butt in, but I've been interested in creating a proper Dark Ages Britannia mod like the one described featuring the heptarchy and all the other little kingdoms of the time. Some creativity would be required when it comes to rosters. Many of the the Brits would be similar, and they didn't have much to speak of in terms of ships either, both part of the reason the Vikings with their warriors and longships were so devastating. For those players who place more emphasis on the campaign than battles (myself included), it's not an issue though, really. 31 factions in a small geographical area with everything to lose and everything to gain has always sounded like a lot of fun.

In my opinion, there is no reason to include Iceland on any Total War map, including Viking Age maps, because despite being very relevant historically, gameplay-wise it's just an island that the player can take and hold easily, and will not see much action. Literally, a waste of space.

    No worries, mate

Yes, creating the rosters could become somewhat tricky, though I'd refer again to Brytonwalda mod of Mount&Blade Warband. They did a lot of research and one could learn some things from them.

You mean Iceland would be a kind of dead end, just like Africa was for TIW?

BTW, I have moved our vacancies to a more convenient new thread: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showt...uitment-thread
