In fact the minor independent powers such as the smaller principalities and the republics of Genova, Lucca, etc. are implemented as said strong rebel garrisons. Naturally they put up more resistance to invaders, resulting in the conquest of northern Italy being a much harder job to do.

@Theramines' screens: I especially like the second one, but try to disable banners for making screens, as the large hovering battle banners break the authentic looks of the pictures.

I can't believe I didn't think of that. I've now removed banners. I might see if I can rescue the second picture with a bit gimp manipulation.

Very nice screens, without banners now I particularly like 1,2 and 4.

First of all: this mod is awesome! Not only the setting, also what you did with the mechanics of the game and all the "small" stuff like that your Generals become lords of the cities you capture...awesome! Now i'm waiting for 4.0 and waht i already saw again looks great! Did I get it right, that you got rid of all the old meII units? Because what I didn't really like with the old version were the crossbow, pike and militia-standart units, they looked a little out of time and weren't very well done by CA in the first place...
Thanks again for all the work!

Just tried the battle beta and I must say the units are spectacular one question though in regards to Venice, will the stradiote model stay vanilla or do you plan to have a new model made for it? Just wondering.

Just tried the battle beta to have a look at the units and they are awesome! I didn't try the beta before because i like my battles to have a little story around them, just as given in the campaign. But I was waiting for a good mod covering this era. I simply love the pike and gun mix. I tried 1648, but it is too huge and they tried too much new stuff, so with me it crashes a lot...Thanks a lot for your work! Good luck for the new release, hopefully for me in time!

    Epic battle, b257

When taking screenshots, though, try to disable banners (see the medieval2.preferences in the installation folder) and switch off the HUD (see "Menu Options").

Oh I can do that? Thanks for the heads up .

I really love the Venetian roster, it suits my play style since I usually like armies with heavily armored missile units, let's me have more leverage in maneuvering my cav since armored missile infantry can hold their own in melee especially when backed up by pikes or halberds

Addendum (I hate how I cannot edit my posts for some reason...): The file is of type CFG, and named DIK, the parameter is "show_banners".

    b257 very nice screens

And of course, really good and correct use of complex mixed army on battlefied, pike, shot, bow, ecc. for xvi century warfare.

In order to disable banners, go to the Italian Wars folder in ...\Sega\Medieval 2\mods. Find a file named CFG and therein a line saying "display banners = 1". Change the 1 to a 0, save, done.

@ Maxdivi You make a good point there and I won't even object that. I still feel there could be more actual factions on the Balkans, too, and/or those existing factions could be made more powerful (than the rebels). But I tweaked the appearance of rebels in the data now so that should be fine enough for me Now waiting for the next version
"Pompeius, after having finished the war against Mithridates, when he went to call at the house of Poseidonios, the famous teacher of philosophy, forbade the lictor to knock at the door, as was the usual custom, and he, to whom both the eastern and the western world had yielded submission, ordered the fasces to be lowered before the door of science."
