    Default Editing unit table, "region"??

How does the entry "region" work in unit.tables??

I have noticed that Kyoto Police is confined to recruitment in Kyoto. And it has "kyoto" under this region entry. Then is it able to assign other units to specific regions? How do I do it??

Have a look at the region_resource table. It contains the Kyoto entry and you can add new region resourced.
I too am interested in this as I want to limit the recruitment of Shinsengumi and Shinchougumi to Kyoto and Edo as it was in history.

As far as I know there are three tables with that entry and that is: region_unit_resources, start_pos_regions_to_unit_resources and units. Now, I tried to create a new resource for the Iwate region but when I process startpos the game freezes on loadup screen. Any ideas?

You have to use a mod pack containing your new \db\region_unit_resources_tables and \text\db\region_unit_resources.loc files which are referenced by start_pos_regions_to_unit_resources. If you try to make the startpos.esf without using such a mod pack then the game will use the vanilla versions of these files instead and give you a CTD

It still does not work. I first exported those tables to the mod.pack and then restarted BOB to export startpos. That did not work. If you meant something else, please clarify.

Put the mod pack in the \steam\SteamApps\common\Total War SHOGUN 2\data folder .
When BOB starts TWS2 and the game asked if you want to load a mod pack select the mod pack you made that contains the db and .loc files.
At least this method worked for me.
