Would you like an forward march command for all units? (READ FIRST)

Would you want to be able to order your units in an STRAIGHT forward march all at once or group for group with only an key binding or button to press without the fuss of getting the perfect move order?
Have you ever felt that the phalanxes where unusable for attacking becouse of the extreme amount of precision one must have to make it work? and then do you ever feel dissapointed when you get into combat they turn around and opens huge caps and just generally acts crazy?


Then i call for an MOD for RTW to solve this issue, and i call an cry for help to anyone here to know or knew CA workers, even an simple carbage man that lives in that area could easily get a chatter with them about this. An prime example of great things that come in the last minute is the settlement renaming feature in barbarian invasion that gave an more personilzed look on ones own empire.

I completely agree with you, i hate commanding a whole forward march unit by unit, but why is this posted here??

Also i hope they make a Charge button, for example you want your front line to charge on the enemies front line..so you group your first line unit and press the charge button and they all charge at the enemy, makes it more realistic.

I agree (I have this idea in every strategy game I play), it's a very useful thing to do...
Rise of Nations was the first and only game I played which featured that and I was always doing it.

It would be very helpful, and the charge would look and work ways better - but I fear it's impossible. I think that's th best forum - since Darth Vader is the best to answer this question, I guess. So I'd say, let the thread stay here, and I hope the idea can be implemented...

Unfortunatelly this cannot be done by a modder right now.
I had a lot of ideas to implement this if I had the tools ..but I am only a modder.

The surgical micromanagement of units is fair but unrealistic and causes frustration to players who mostly want their decisions to be carried out in the battlefield (Like true generals) than explain to their troops their exact coordinates of positioning and orientation (...too gameish and childish but happens universally to all strategy games right now)

Yes, I say that the way that issuing orders in RTW is terrible and needs to be fixed. Nothing like grouping your units and when you drag them ahead, they take your maniple formation and turns it into a single line formation, seriously it has to be a bug that was never fixed.

i beg to differ i thing the current system of micromanaging is more historically accurate
after the general has given the order to march forward its the job of officers to controll their respective units ,to keep their units in formations
i think to stimulate that amount of hard work required to manuever an army on the battle field ca dint include that kind of feature
otherwise we can find forward march feature in many stratergy games

i agree that kind of feature will make manuevering alot easier
but still i like the current system.

You could always ignore the button...

Select all units once they've stopped, the ones that you want to march forward, then click the left alt button and right click the area you want them to march to.

The units will then march and maintain the formation that you set them up already. I've used this to great effect on the field as I usually keep my legions in formation and as an anchor while the cavalry and skirmishers go off the sides and pepper the enemy.

You can also order units to turn x amount of degrees by using the <,> button and they'll maintain the formation.

That's the best at the moment. It'd be nice to have a fall back but not route button but it's better than nothing.

This is on FPS controls bTW

EDIT: Funny enough, when I first played RTW at my dad's friend's son's computer, I do recall somewhat a button that told troops to march forward. When I bought the game in hong Kong I never found it again.

it's maybe a bit stupid , but i don't know how to order an missile unit to charge in, i always have to turn off the "S" and then make them move into the enemy troop, and also i don't know how to reform an unit to the form i want, is there a button or smth like that or not ?

If controlling a missile unit press Alt and right click on the enemy unit to send the missile unit into hand to hand combat - and usually certain death lol.

not to good of a question, roman units are good with manually maneuvering each units, while using a phalanx as one would help it

I would also like to see a give ground command. When a unit is under atack it would slow pull back while still fighting. It would be a great tactical option.
