HELP! Why are packfiles simply not working? even if no changes made

I made a mod packfile (just a bunch of value changes) and it didn't work. I've been trying to figure out why, so I downloaded another mod and the packfile works.

but if open working mod packfile with pack file manager and save it as something else it no longer works, even tho I didn't make ANY changes to it.

which boggles my mind, since its exactly the same file. anyone got any clues what I'm doing wrong? would be apreciated, first go at modding a game so it could be something stupid.

The only discernible differences are the lack of .png image file, or different file name which are assumably is unimportant.

Check to see what mode the pack files are in. Is the mod you downloaded in movie mode? and when you saved it as something else did it change to mod mode? You have to do extra stuff to get the mod mode pack files to work, but the movie ones do without changing anything. I can't tell you what you have to do because you have to edit a file and the forum doesn't allow me to say the name of the file or the directory. It is the file where you add lines to it to tell the game to use your mods, that file needs to be set to read only after you add the lines and it should work. Try using Mod Manager too, I haven't used it personally so I don't know much about it, but it seems to be what everyone is using.

thanks for replying. I didn't understand any of what you said, but mentioning the official mod manager made me realise the problem.

and it was something stupid. installing mods from workshop automatically check the mod in the launcher mod manager, whereas when I am installing via packmanager or pasting in packfile, the mod is unchecked.

So i just have to check it.
