Default my only problem with rtw

rtw is a fun overall game but i only have one problem with it its called

THE AI in the strategy map

btw im using rtr 6.0 gold (duno if that matters)

ok so im roman empire and macedonia, iberian, and numidians are my allys...

i gave macedonia 2000 denirri as a gift and then i was killing off the greek states to i send an army to athens and take it and then i give it to mecedonia for free (they didnt wana trade) i did the same with chalika (city to the right of athens) then out of nowhere the macedonian just attack me.... when our allience was going good were trading alot.....

same thign with iberians we were killing of the guals and out of nowhere they attack me.....

ok my question is... if i put strategy map difficilty to hard willl the AI not do this, or wuts up

    someome explain to me this....

No, there is no way to change the AI's behavior, if you change the settings to VH then it only makes them agressive and more likely to attack you earlier.

The AI will always stab you in the back, your alliance mean nothing. You can just as well get only trade rights. If you do not protect your border cities well they will invade them. Also if you do that, they can still randomly decide to blockade a port. Or demand you become a protectorate and attack you the next turn after you accepted.

its so stupid though they know im more powerful than them yet they randomly attack hopefully future total war games will have better AI.. i mean if i was a weaker empire i will like to stay allied to the most power one as much as i can.....

now i gota deal with guals and iberians to the left and macedonians to the right lol

    hopefully the numidians wont attack

The only way to have peace with a close country is a buffer zone, any people you have a close border with will attack you at the first opportunity, unless they are utterly broke and destroyed BEFORE declaring war.

For example, in my current RTR campaign I had about 50 years peace and prosperity with the Illyrians as I left one tiny province up northeast to the gauls and the province in the north was still rebel, once i took out that Gaul province, WHAM, full scale Illyrian attack in the same turn.

The Numidians on the other hand had only two towns left from their war with Carthage and had no means whatsoever to start a war so even with a close border they left me in peace... until I eradicted them bwahahaha.

An other factor for peace is the distance from your next city or unit to the enemy, if the AI cannot reach you in a single turn the chances for peace are greater, a good example in Vanilla is the north border of the asia minor/middle east area. You can have peace with the Scythians forever, but if you have for example a General building towers there and a small Scythian army comes by they will attack him no matter what, to avoid that click on the enemy unit and check their moving range for the next range, if you stay out of it no problem.

Any water border (sea) will keep peace for a long time too as the AI is many times too stupid to launch a full scale naval landing assault (unless it is "programmed" to do so, as with the Brutii)

So even after playing rtw for a long time I have yet to find out a useful way for diplomacy, some people recommend protectorates for long lasting peace but it seems to cost so much money to establish one (giftwise) that its not fesable.

I think i don't have this probleme because i always start my games with in mind that i will conquer the world ****ing anyone who is on my way. So no allies or stuff like that. :tooth:

and furin nice read in my campiang numidia took over all of africa lol , we are trading like crazy! hopefully they wont attack

im defening from gual and iberian attack and im owning the macedionians all they got left is the southern citys (athens , spartha, cornith)

oh well hopefully i can finish off the macedonians and then fend of the iberians and guals , and hope that no one else attack

i fear the thracians might attack to the north....

No cheats with me. Not my fault if the diplomacy sucks. I even play parth which has the suckiest infantry in the game. So it's pretty hard to fight greeks, their army is full of piks, it's hard with cataphract. You can have an army full of cav archer, but thats not fun. Cheat sucks. And now i can lose with mods and new unit formations. That is fun, because when you come back it is epic \o/
