AI - Custom Battle Siege Glitches With AI playing Attacker
These are 4 AI siege glitches that I ran into during my Custom Battles when the AI is attacking a city:
1. When the AI attacks a city - it sets up with both Siege Engines (such as Ballistas) and Siege Equipment (such as ladders or towers). When the game starts - it uses the Ballistas to knock down city walls while the Siege equipment with troops on board just sit and do nothing. Once the breaches are made the units all leave the Siege equipment and run for the breach. Of course when I play the attacker you can move allsiege equipment as well use the various siege engines.
2. When two or more breaches are made in a wall by the Siege Engine - the units only attack one of the breaches - even if breaches fairly close to each other.
3. There appears to be no way in Custom Battle City Siege to attack the walls at different locations. Even when trying to split the armies using a second allied army does not work as the AI still moves them together. The AI seems to work fine in a City Port Attack but is useless in a City Siege. I would think it would work on the same principle as you have different units - in this case ships and land troops. I know this can be done in Campaign. Why not in the custom battle?
4. When the AI attacks a city - the Ballistas, Onagers etc. use stones to create one or two breaches but then, instead of continuing to break down the walls, the siege engines switch to flaming shot that go over the walls - but do little damage to the defending force. It makes more sense to me to continue battering the walls to make more breaches. If the glitch can be fixed with units attacking other breaches - it would allow many more parts of the fortress to be attacked at the same time. This puts the Player defender at a much greater disadvantage.
5. In the Port Assault - the landed naval forces many times have a habit of moving to the first gate they can find and try to through torches at the gate. Most large city maps have the gates not made of wood so the torches are useless and the attackers get destroyed as they mill around waiting for the gate to burn. Otherwise they have to run around the city to find the land army and that takes forever. I don't know if this can be done, but the ships should include some siege equipment that can be landed to properly attack the walled city near their landing base.
These are just some examples I have found that make the AI in siege so easily to beat. Playing at the "Very Hard" level is really a joke when attacked by the AI. The Defense with the AI is another subject that is loaded with glitches which make the Attacking player an easy winner.
