Default One does not simply play Rome 2, or do they?

    Hello,

First time poster, long time lurker. I love this franchise. It's historical setting, scale and most importantly strategy have kept me entertained for hours. First off, I like most of you are disappointed, not outraged, just disappointed with the second coming of RTW. It is a just a game after all and a fixable one over time at that. I'm not here to debate so and so and speculate on things that aren't worth speculating on.

Basically, I have a week off of work, wife is gone and I have a tub of Ice Cream in the fridge. All I wanna do is lead my legions to victory with challenge and strategy being paramount. I've looked at the mod threads and I don't know where to begin. Do they make the game playable? Is the CAI worthy enough to be slain? Should I just say @#$% it and go outside like a normal person? Or can I achieve what I really want which is ignoring phone calls and staying up all night Conquering the Mediterranean? Thx

If I understand your post right, you're asking if it's worth buying the game. I can't tell you, because I don't have it, but there are so many other threads on this forum on the same topic. If you read around, I'm sure you will get an idea about what other players think of the game, and then you can make your own choice.

Personally, I wanted to do something similar to what you are planning - even had specifications for a new computer ready to buy - but decided against it based on the feedback people post here.
The game development business is one of bottomless greed, pitiless cruelty, venal treachery, rampant competition, low politics and boundless personal ambition. New game series are rising, and others are starting their long slide into obscurity and defeat.

Good move, wait until/if fixed. That way PC components will be a better price, or buy a better rig for the same money. I spent £1300 for this game, and don't even want to play it.

Load up RTW 1 and choose a mod that looks to your liking, darthmod, eb, roma surrectum, and lose yourself in those games. Rome 2 is not up to par yet for a week long bender campaign.

I love Roma Surrectum 2. Most brutal TW campaign I've ever played. The only problem is since RTW is optimized for 1 core my "up to date" computer lags in big battles! It's awful!

DONT PLAY VANILLA GAME!! You will waste many hours. Put mods on it and then its just about playable. I was suggest either Radious mod or STIM mod. However, I have had these mods on it and i got bored very quickly. The PC lag in battles probably been the main reason for this but you will find that both battle and campaign map is very repetitive and not very tactical.

There's nothing that wrong with Rome 2 vanilla. At least in my own opinion. I have... lemme check... 130 hours in Rome 2 right now. I don't regret any of that.
Still a ways to go to catch up with my 385 in Shogun 2, but to be fair, Shogun 2 has about a year lead or something. I'll probably surpass my playtime in about another month or two, perhaps.

CAI is pretty damn good. Better than Shogun 2 imo.

BAI, as always, isn't the greatest.

Id reccomend getting at LEAST something like Radious battle mod. The campaign aspects fails on a lot of front but is playable. Just get a battle mod as the battle is unplayable.

Also ignore the Vanilla is fine crap the guy above posted. Hes one of the 2% of TWC that thinks Rome 2 is fine and ca did a grand old job with it Im sure hell be heading back to train simulator within a few weeks.

In certain respects, sure, the game is a little disappointing - there are glimpses of greatness that never quite materialize. It's also buggy, even now, and at times just downright frustrating. That said, if I'm honest, I think I probably felt the same way about RTW, even though it remains one of my favorite games of all time. Personally, I think even a mediocre Total War game is far better than most other games. After almost twenty years of gaming, the only other title that has caught my imagination as much as the TW franchise is Skyrim (so much so that I was too distracted to even bother with Shogun 2). Overall, I'd definitely recommend that you buy Rome 2. To get the most out of it, however, do add some mods. I use Radious' overhaul, which is extremely good and easy to install. I also hear good things about Silven's overhaul. Another 'must' mod is the 'all playable factions' mod, which allows you to play as any one of the 100 or so factions.

Under those conditions you will probably get your money's worth, assuming $60 won't burn a whole in your pocket. But in terms of immersion, especially after the *virgin* factor dies off, it's a longshot from achieving the same as its predecessors. The Radious mod adds a lot more to the balance though, worth checking out.

    I'd advise against steroid use.

I'd say that it's a worthy buy. The Vanilla game is great and certain mods add to it as well.
