    Default client states

Anyone figured out how to get a client state through peaceful way?
Only thing you can bargain with is a payment, even if I offer large sum, the chance is still low.

No idea - i would guess being ridiculously more powerful than any other faction would be what would be most likely to get them to - but i don't know. I think i remember some people in other threads saying they had got the Seleucids to become their vassals and once they did the Seleucid client states all asked to become client states too.

It is very easy, sometimes you get it for free anyway. Money is not what the AI values the most, the best way is to offer a faction to join a war on their side in return for them becoming your client. Making Syracuse, Sparta and Athens into client states is extremely easy.

Sometimes when you become very strong, nations will ask to become your client state so they come under the umbrella of your protection. Once when i was Sparta ( i am pro player), some nation in Brittania asked me to become their protector. So did Egpyt before it was about to die.

I would tend to agree here that its based on your military prowess, as they will be under your protection as a client state. Wouldn't want your master to be some panzy would you? I tend to attack anyone who asks for my protection because weakness can not be tolerated. Or is it because there is nothing else to do???

Even if I offer a two city nation to join war against its 3 enemies, they do not want to become client state.
But maybe its because I play legendary. They simply do not go client state on legendary.

Or, I am still too small, My empire is in the middle of the third part, in the overview, perhaps it works only if you are in the last part.

Hmm, I like the strategy in the game.
Battles are only tactics, I usually autoresolve them. It actually makes your losses bigger, so the game is more fair.

Radious Total War Mod and Dresden's Sack, Liberation and Diplomatic Options do help a lot with AI diplomacy. Also lets you liberate nations, which is a great way to get them to like you and be your client, as factions that can't normally do that and have Satrapies which are far more useful than client states.

I managed to do that once with Tylis very early in my campaign when I defeated their first army and took Macedon from them. They asked for peace (which hasnt happened again since), I countered with a client state offer, and they accepted. Currently the only way to get any treaties is to liberate, creating an ally (which I can only do thanks to Dresdens mod) or to subjugate - including Egypt, destroyed countless times, still at the verge of death thanks to various African tribes, only alive because I liberated them, relations +800 (!!!)... they canceled the alliance they had with me, the mightiest Empire there is (come on!?) and wouldnt accept anything after that. No treat, no non-agression-treaty, nothing.

I subjugated those selfish pricks, they are now my client and still we have +600 relations.

A few have offered to be my client state without being at war with me and all were under these conditions.
1: They were under heavy attack and losing badly.
2: I was nearby and was stronger than their enemies.
3: I was not playing aggressively and didn't break any treaties.
"I, Pinkie Pie, declare that these treats are fit for a king, or a queen, or a princess!"
"Me? Ruin? I'm not the ruiner, I'm the ruinee! Or is it ruinness? Ruinette?"
"She's ahead of the litter all right. The pick of the litter. The cat's pajamas. Oh wait. Why would Applejack take some poor kitty's pj's? That's not very sporting of her."
"More balloons! No, that's too many balloons. More candy! No, less candy. Ooh! I know! Streamers!"
"Oh my gosh. Hold on to your hooves – I am just about to be brilliant!"

I had a similar situation when playing Parthia (Satrapy in my case) where factions offered themselves to be under my protection after I have helped them with few battles against their enemy. It help to get it started from non-aggression pact > defensive alliance too.
