    ok, i'll have a go....
Actually, my worst defeat was also my best battle! I have played many games with many different factions in the past few days, but my heart has always remained with Aelle and his thegns. My whole game relied on my conquering caer baddan, as I was fighting against both dumnonia and gwent, and also against the angles (the jutes were already acknowledging aelle as bretwalda!) and on the top of that two of my cities where rebelling from being overpopulated (which ended up ruining my game by the way...). With most of my forces engaged against the powerful angles or babyciting caer ludein, I had 'only' two full stacks to take on the british. My northern army was commanded by eomer, a youth of 18 but I just coulnd't resist when I saw the name, and the second main army was cammanded by Aelle of Sussex himself. Against me, not far from caer baddan (which I was besieging), stood Arthur himself. Now I did loose this battle, unfortunately, but it might have been what we call in french un acte manqué instead of my bad commanding because come on, arthur against aelle on caer baddan!!! In the beginiing dyfnet just used aulue and got slaughtered by my fyrd, but after a while, they and gwent just used completely elite armies of rherel and campwyr and heavy cavalry and it started getting a whole lot harder! On this particular battle I had a full stack including aelle's big bodyguard regiment (70 or so gesithas) and a great number of fyrfmen in shieldwall some slingers and some heavy thegn infantry. I lost because of lack of cavalry I think. And also those **** rherel which tore my fyrd to pieces and when they where routed by my thegn infantry (including some overcool billweras) I foolishly did the usual rookie mistake of chasing them around and scattering my forces. And then , their cavalry picked off my elite veteran gesithas and billweras one by one and finnally aelle fell not to arthur but to those marca contw, damn sarmatian two handed spears.... This was truly an epic battle with much tension, and I didn't realise I was loosing until the very end! Some units where even celebrating from having finished of their immediate foe when they where run down but heavy cav!!
I have lost battles much more foolishly but this one was really intense and I felt like I was reliving history loosing aelle this way. At the end I might even have shed a tear I think ^^.... Honestly this kind of battle is why I like such historically minded and accurate mods! Thank you guys for such a great jopb! (And please fix that population issue!!)

Ui Neill campaign for testing purpose on upcoming version

In 486 AD, I was betrayed by both Mumain and Connaght, attacked on two fronts. Things were not so bad until my field army, led by Loegaire, my king, was destructed by a superior Mumainha army. Teamhaidh (Tara) was taken then.

My faction heir was fighting the Connachta, besieging one of their fortress. He was attacked one time (clear victory), two times (quite hard, only thanks to arras and slingers) and a third time (retreat), then a fourth time by a small pursuing army in the same turn. Victory, but killed in the process.

Then I hold a bridge against Connaght with fresh troops. The ennemy stand up bravely, and my general was killed, so I let his arras defend the bridge on their own:

Heroes slaughtered the foes in memory of their dead leader:

490 AD, my third remaining family members are besieged by the Mumainha in Armagh.

    A very appropriate quote...

The ennemy made 4 breches in the palissade. My warriors hold their ground like heroes, but were seriously outnumbered. Successful on one side, they were beaten in the center and right side. So the few remaining retreated to the city place, and killed the ennemy general too temerous.

They fought to the last one, but in the end, the Mumainha were victorious. And this is the first time I ever lost a campaign in RTW.

I think infantry armies are not my stuff. With 4-5 heavy cavalry units nothing can withstand me, but like this... damn, those bloody battles are among the best ones I ever had!

Had my worst defeat just today. I was playing an Ui Neill game on the rather wussy settings of H/M fighting an easy war against the Connaght and a hard fought one against my regional rival Munster. I was doing well, with two armies roaming Ireland conquering one city at a time, then resting and retraining. When I had some spare cash I built a third one, got it a general and sent it to what I thought was an empty corner of the Emerald Isle and sieged a city. I was wrong, a Munster army about the size of mine, though with more elite troops appeared from nowhere and attacked me. I fought him off fairly easily but lost my general. The reinforcing army from the city(one general's unit) proceeded to kill 230 odd troops of mine, causing a mass route. I lost everything. Watching that little bar that shows how good you're doing go from nearly all blue to all green was very sad.
