Looks like it will be good. I really like the visual style. The problem with historical movies, for history buffs, is that there is always something that doesn't look right. For me it was all the screaming and yelling that the Spartan characters were doing. The Spartans were known for being calm and unemotional even in the face of death.

Although it does look really good...it makes me wish they had made "Gates of Fire", at least to delve a little more into their daily lives, agoge and everything.

His Spartans actually don't yell often in the comic book though, this direction comes from Zach Snyder and is mostly unwelcome. Same with all the talking about 'freedom' and 'democracy'... totally unnecessary and not the reason why the Spartans were fighting.

Anyway, I love the comic and look forward to the movie.

"Democracy" was very well a reason the spartans were fighting...but mostly against. :tooth:

    Here's a comment I can relate too.
I wish the director was non-american or at least apolitical.

That aside, I'm really liking the look of the Persians, wickedly brilliant.

They were fighting for freedom, but their ideas about what freedom consisted in were somewhat different from modern ideas of freedom. The city states were considered free so long as they could make their own laws, and the individual citizens were free so long as they were all ruled by the same laws, not by men. That was the central political difference between the Greeks and the Persians - the Persians were ruled by one man who was above the law, and could command anything. In Sparta even the Kings had to obey the laws.

The idea that the Spartans were fighting for democracy is anachronistic and out of character - even the Athenians didn't really become democratic until after the battle of Salamis, and when the Athenians did become democratic the Spartans didn't like the idea much at all.

it looks INSANE! can't wait. but what's up with all the other crazy stuff, like that rhino-like creature and all of the crazy costumes. It looks like a great movie, but still, im a kinda history buff, so its kinda weird. But still, awsome!
