So I saw they added heavy arrows to some of the mounted archer units (its seems arbitrary which ones..my parthians have them, but not scythian noble archers...yet roxoians noble archers do). Any ideas on their effectiveness? I have tried them out in multiplayer, but their effect is not noticeable.
Which brings me to my next point is that mounted archery in general seems..well...useless. As a massive mongol fan from M2TW, shogun was great - cavalry was perfect able to engage, disengage and reasonable effectiveness of archer units. In rome2 it feels like im playing with a handy cap. cavalry units get stuck in combat if 1 man out of the unit is engaged, resulting in your unit strung out across the battlefield as the infantry piles in. archery units can sit next to anything but the lighest armoured units and drain their entire ammo stock for almost no casualties.
I was able to mitigate this somewhat by using a few infantry units as parthia to compliment this and work as something of a hammer and anvil, but the complete lack of infantry in the new factions mean they have to rely entirely on these units that various soft factors and lack of damage render them useless against most army builds. Scythian royal cavalry have been a nice boon able to tough it out for long combats...but i guess it comes down to why them when you can take praetorian cav which are just as good if not better - a damning indictment of a faction whose speciality is supposed to be cavalry
