Default Will this stop automatically updating patches?

I've looked around on the internet and the consensus seems that setting steam to " do not automatically update " doesn't actually do that and it just resets back to normal. However I did find that putting steam in offline mode did work for some people. Does anybody know for sure if putting steam in offline mode will stop the updates?

Steam in offline mode will stop the updates because the updates are downloaded.

Just use the offline mode to be sure. At least with Shogun 2 it works for me. My pc is always online while I set offline for my laptop (which I seldom use). I have been able to play unpatched Shogun 2 for quite some time before I finally go online.

The " do not automatically update " do not seems to work at least from what I've read. Not that I ever tried it myself. Maybe what happened is people set it to not update but then go on to play MP off course the game will then download available patch since MP works with latest patch only.

Not sure if this is the case. Will have to try it myself then in 2 weeks time before next patch.

the moment I read of the problems with with patch 5, I made a steam backup of patch 4 anything bad happens I will just reinstall patch 4 and play. I have a firewall with game mode which stops all internet traffic. I only tested patch 4 for like 4 hours, haven't fire up rome 2 since. enjoying rome 1 mods too much atm. nothing can beat the 5 second turn times + load times nothing! rome 2 is about 30 seconds on my main pc. which is ok, playable. but, it is 5 secs turn times, what can beat it for immersion?

open steam, go to your library, right click any game you have installed, then choose backup game files. you will get a list of all games you currently have in steam installed on your pc. check the box of any game you wish to back up and follow the onscreen steps. voila.

you just make a back up (steam has an automated feature) of the game at the said patch

Anybody know if the startpos.esf file will reset even if offline mode is enabled?
