    Default Stubborn CTD issues

    Hello:

I’ve been playing MTW2 vanilla for some time on this system without any problems. But since installing the SS6.4 mod, I have had CTDs on multiple occasions. First, there are CTDs when starting siege battles but not all siege battles. I have played for several turns and had multiple battles without CTD problems. The CTDs seem erratic. I was able to get around the siege CTD by lowering resolution to lowest settings. (This is not a very satisfactory solution as the game looks terrible, but at least I can continue to play.)

Now I am stuck on a CTD during the AI turns. It gets partway through the factions then crashes. The video resolution is still set to lowest. I’ve reloaded several times and made some minor changes in the game before finishing the turn, saved it again, but it still crashes when moving to the next turn.
Any suggestions to minimize these CTD would be appreciated. From what I’ve seen, SS 6.4 looks like lots of fun.
    Here are my system stats:
    · OS = Windows 8 (Dell XPS laptop with Intel Core i&-3632QM @ 2.20GHz, 16.0 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M)
    · Medieval 2 Total War Kingdoms Gold patched to version 1.5
    · Stainless Steel 6.4 (UAC shut-off during install; now reactivated at previous setting)
    · No submods installed

    Here is my SS.System.log file:

did you install outside program files. And in windows 8/8.1 to actually turn off UAC you have to modify the registry, the slider doesn't do anything. It honestly looks like with a building load error your missing some files, my guess would be UAC moved it. Try installing outside program files, running as administrator, and see if the crash goes away. If not, turn on trace for your system log by deleting the ; in front of ;level=trace* in the default.cfg file in your ss.6.3 folder and post the new crash log.

Also, for the siege battle issue, which i think is graphics only related if they work with it turned down (ss is much more graphics heavy than vanilla) make sure via the nvidia control panel your using the geforce card and not the intel graphics. Most modern labtops/desktops put mtw2 as a intel by default. I think its in under 3d settings in the control panel.

I had the same problems with Win8.1. 6.3 installed and ran fine, but the 6.4 patch just made it crash.

I reinstalled 6.3 and 6.4 with UAC off, as administrator, and to program files(86), which is the regular install path. It worked. To play I have to right-click the icon and run as administrator every time. Haven't had a crash since. I hope this helps in some way.
