go to the modding section. download the latest version of pfm. open up the radious battle pack with pfm(look for the land units section) and halve the dmg of all melee attacks. or you could up their melee defense, or both. your choice. daniu's pfm made modding a piece of cake.

“The only rule that ever made sense to me I learned from a history, not an economics, professor at Wharton. "Fear," he used to say, "fear is the most valuable commodity in the universe." That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

I would not mess with the damage or defense values, but instead reducing the

    -melee_hit_chance_base
    -melee_hit_chance_max
    -melee_hit_chance_min

    in the kv_rules table

Just play around a bit with these values, they define how often melee attacks hit.

If you set them really low, the battles could actually go on for hours.
