    Default Anyone noticed

That they gave starting traits to characters? And that they forgot certain other factions *cough Carthage cough* Or is it just a random start up of a new campaign type thing?

    EDIT:

    Factions that receive starting traits:
    Rome all
    Seleucid all
    Pontus one of four generals
    Macedon one of four generals
    Sparta one of four generals

Factions that don't receive starting traits:
    Carthage
    Parthia
    Iceni
    Athens
    Suebi
    Epirus

I know this is a VERY minor thing and one that is made more complicated with how the files are setup with this generation of TW, text files versus access files, but it makes me wonder what is going over there in the CA offices. Are they not focused enough? Are they trying to do to much at once? Are they that unorganized/poorly coordinated?

I know most of my posts come off harsh and maybe even rude to some, for that I apologize, but I cannot stand the way this series is going and I feel I have to make my voice heard somewhere. This being the best place I have found to do so, seeing that some former members are now current employees at CA. If you have played the first shogun, medieval, or rome then you know what I am talking about, the stripping out of features and game play designed challenges is killing this game for me. Sure the graphics are getting better but they should naturally just with the evolution of technology. The things that should NOT be changing are the core game mechanics every time you make a new game in the same series line. Once you invent the wheel you don't keep reinventing the wheel, you invent stuff to attach that wheel to. I know we all want different things out of games, but removing the challenge should not be a desire for any of us. The core concept of this game and its sole design purpose is to be a Strategy game, that should normally equate to a challenging, thought provoking, and immersive game environment in which any gamer can find the challenge he or she is looking for by simply upping the difficulty level.

And that is the most frustrating part, they don't care.

I honestly was about to send my copy of Rome 1 and Barbarian Invasion to a friend who has never played the series and assuredly make them another fan and likely money in the future. With the current state of RTW2 I truly believe RTW1 is a better game initially, graphics taken out of the equation, and with mods hands down far and away a better game now and possibly ever due to the fact its so freaking hard to mod. Looks like he will get equally good titles, Medieval 1 and 2 to get into the series, as the Roman time period is one of my favorite time periods in history.

I noticed with the Seleucids that the generals were actually fixed, instead of randomized like it used to be. I haven't actually tried any other factions yet though to see how this pans out.

Yeah there is a huge change in what Seleucid is now and what it was in vanilla. They even have new buildings for them, new units, new *starting* armies navy and a spy. Plus have actual missions, though those are obviously only there for "supported" major (playable) factions, and have a working diplomacy and faction families setup which again is only done for "supported" factions

I played out a Seleucid campaign about 3 days ago and researched only in the top military line to unlock all the barracks. It would have taken me over 39 turns to unlock their "decent" units, the first three barracks gave them at best, Pikeman (normal ones not the cool silver shields) and Hoplites (again nothing elite, just basic should be able to get from beginning hoplites) So essentially for the first 50 turns my armies consisted of Hillman, Eastern Spearman, Syrian Light & Heavy archers, and Citizen Cavalry. I had no access to silver shield anything, no better cavalry and still no slingers due to the fact I hadn't researched the civic techs to unlock the tier III cities and town buildings. Was a HUGE let down and am playing as them now to see how things go.... Please oh Please let it be getting better, my house rule list is already to long

Why you want starting traits anyway? Unless modded - they are all madness traits ranging from inbreds to complete lunacy with generals with only 1 point of authority
