Just wanted to start a thread to hear thoughts on the new patch and selucids.
Downloading the update now and with my slow net will be done by next year i hope. Those who are playing, how are you finding the changes and has anyone tried selucids?

I deinstalled all my mods for trying the vanilla version 1.5 and man, this game is so much worse without certain mods... I forgot it already
Especially the vanilla battles are are still a mess, battle is over so fast you can not blink once, let alone go for strategic movements, units are dieng just soo fast...
In addition, Factions are still passive, still dont build up armies let alone attack anything that is yours... So pretty much the same as before. But honestly there was nothing in the patch notes that could give hopes to expect otherwise.
The Seleucids itself might be not bad as addition to play, but visually they are boring und donīt really differentiate from other greek factions. Only the starting position and situation has potential.
The Performance seemed to get slightly better, although the FPS I get in the forest benchmark dropped since Patch 2! (From 42 FPS average to 36.8 FPS Average) But I think that "benchmark" is garbage anyways and does not work properly.
The seleucids don`t interest me. But as for the Patch:
They actually removed the `ghost` units you get when you press space. This helps greatly reduce slowdown in battles.
Sieges even more broken than before. Ai don`t even get on the walls now.
Numbers on unit card are better, etc, etc, nothing that shouldn`t have been done before. It`s the sieges that need sortin`.
Aren't sieges slated for patch 6 or 7? It's not like siege AI fixes are easy to do, given they are a rather complex affair... particularly pathfinding, which is Total War's Achille's Heel - which makes sense, given some games struggle to get a dozen units to pathfind right, Total War has to worry about pathfinding for thousands of units at once. No simple job there.
They sold you this to begin with though as being available.
Basically they're trying to save face for future dlc which profits them after releasing an unfinished game. Sega laid out the rules which they knew well ahead of time but the temptation got them.... quick profit. All companies are looking for this which is nothing new, but hey you believe they're trying hard to help you?

I just checked and did a quick Tarsus battle and the AI used their ladders to get to the walls. I do not see any difference between what I saw in 4 and 5 but as I pointed out earlier the AI has issues with the ram.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
The Ram bug is still there so hopefully CA gets to work later on on that.
I will check a bigger battle to see why the AI isn't using the other tower but looking over the patch notes I noticed that CA did some balancing with the city pathfinding so the issue maybe in there.
Also I noticed the legionaries are holding the line a lot better too
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
When I tell them to stay they hold the line pretty well.
When I tell them to charge they charge but they hold the line.

are you sure? even in patch 4, I got AI factions trying to get a piece of me right from the beginning. that was me trying out patch 4 as the celts. by turn 20, I had 5 of the local tribes sending army stacks my away. the northern spain ones each send 3 stacks, togetherwas pretty epic fights that early into a campaign. I am fine with battles that is fast or slow, but I don't want avg battle speed to be 20 mins +. if you want your battles to last longer + slower kill rate, it is easy. use the pfm and mod the melee dmg of every unit to 50%. that will 100% slow down the battle speed to 2x it is right now in patch 5.
fear is helluva drugSpoiler Alert, click show to read:Spoiler Alert, click show to read:
If you play something big,. particularly the Romans, the AI won't start wars against you.. You have no choice but to follow your senate directions for world conquest. Historically the Earlier Romans started or engineered just about all their wars.. Every war with Carthage was started by the Romans.
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!
I'd be interested to see if the all factions mod will be allowed on the steam MM. Otherwise I have these lovely DLC's I can sell ya for only 12 bucks each......
In keeping with the usual rules, a unlock faction mod is only allowed - on Steam and TWC - if it only unlocks factions that are unplayable because they aren't meant to be played. You cannot use an unlock mod, on Steam or TWC, to unlock a DLC faction because that is illegal.
I notice the armies are smaller in patch five even it on ultra 120 for infantry units is this right.
yeah i sdaw your thread on the ladders and AI in that siege of yours - was a funny topic to say the least, and screenshots would have been welcomeand we have numbers on unit cards now? i played a few days back im sure by patch 4 it was still a simple bar?
largest what? largest amount of fixes or the most largest in bits? For now, we’re about to roll out our largest patch yet, which contains a number of key fixes and changes.
I read the patch notes and the only really nice addition is we have optionally unit numbers back on the unit cards.
Here are performance stats:
