Default Downgrading your Rome II copy ? (steam-users)

Downgrading your Rome II steam copy : is it even possible ?

Reasons : the first few patches were overall good, but then came patch 4, which implemented a lot of things I dont appreciate in the game. I would like to go back to patch 3 but steam does not allow me to do that. It auto-update the game even if I manually put the auto-update on off.

I feel like being force throat-ed with a game I barely enjoy (alot more in coop though, when I face a human opponent).

My question isnt ONLY "is there a way to go back to patch 3?" but more, "is there a way to download/install/store a previous patch version of rome II".

Since the updates are not working for everybody (in terms of enjoyment or compatibility issues), there should be a way to choose which version of rome 2 you want to play and I would like to know if there is one, or more, and how ?

EVeryone`s a Steam user with Rome 2, you have no choice.

You cannot downgrade, once you downloaded you must keep it, unlike in days before when you could choose the Patch you prefer. Freedom to game as you want lost. i`ve been pointing just this among many as one disadvantage of Steam-forced. CA don`t care.

Uninstalling won`t make it any better, it`ll just reshovel the whole thing back down your throat, no option.

    No alternatives at all ?

I can not believe it !

If that is so, then I must say, gg steam and gg life.
Gotta deal with them clusters-blob for now.

Yes, you could have saved your patch 3 version to another folder and played from there. That's if you got the space on your HDD. The only thing you can do is get a copy of somebody elses patch 3 version.
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

I tried this. I always keep my steam offline when news of another patch is coming, and back-up the entire folder. I still do it, but running Rome II from the back-up folder will just launch the one installed inside the steam commons one.

So, I wasn't able to run patch 3 for example, but had patch 5 running even when launching from the backup folder (patch 3 one).

Only thing you could of done was remove your internet before the patch and don't let steam have a chance to reconnect to it, which is pretty poor. Should be a drop down menu for patches, but I guess they will blame piracy as the whole fiasco has actually helped CA/Sega avoid it through constant patches which are unavailable to dodgy copies.

Just set steam to not automatically update. The problem isn't steam; the problem is with the developer that releases a garbage patch.

You should be presented with a option for this, where you can decide which build you want to play, they could simply display a Multiplayer compatibility warning that you accept and be done with it.

However that's lacking on steam apparently. One could argue that you will always want the latest version of a game, why bother with a "bugged" version, but I can understand. This is even more important once the patches become more and more about "game balancing".

I have no idea if it would work but you could try telling the game not to auto update then find the data folder where all the patches are kept then delete patch 4

Umm that *could* work, however I think the .exe and other files also get updated. It's worth a shot however.

Apparently people are too retarded to be able to download a patch file and double-click on it to install it, or to be able to go to control panel and uninstall it.That was CA's excuse for forcing steam on all users. Their real reason was probably so they can flog a load of DLC and use it as DRM at the same time. This sort of things is one of the reasons I'm going to buy an XBox One and try to transition away from PC gaming. That, and the "Rome II Experience" as CA calls it.
