Default I will not pre-order again Pact Thread

Simple : if you believe that pre-ordering is counter productive, both to your interest as a Consumer and for the long term prospects of quality game releases, then state so here.

    Say : " I will not be pre - ordering a game again "

Create a reminder of your pledge so when the next game comes out that tempts, then you will remember why you decided (in a more rational frame of mind) why this is not a good idea.

If : 1. you pre-ordered and are happy or 2. are generally satisfied : this thread is not for you.

EDIT : for all pedants, proof readers, etc. :

    " I will not be pre - ordering a game again "

That means I have this intention, too.

This time with Rome 2 was the first time I did not pre-order a TW title.

I did buy it 1 month after release though....

I have both bitter and sweet experiences from this game though the scale heavily weighs on bitter.

That said : "I will not be pre - ordering a game again"

(Now a community service announcement) Feel you're being cheated and deceived by bad game releases? Let us agree, no preorders from any company known to release incomplete games. Wait for the game to come out to decide. This will eventually cut down on bad releases and reduce forums that pit fellow gamers against one another.

I hereby most solemnly declare that I shall never pre-order a game.

Not that I have ever done or would do so anyway. It doesn't make much sense. Actually I wouldn't even buy most games on release. It's always better to wait a little bit and enjoy the game than to play it immediately and be frustrated.

Imagine if movies were like games - if you watched the movie at the premiere, the audio would be out of sync, the actors would forget their lines, and suddenly the movie might just end in the middle of the story..
The game development business is one of bottomless greed, pitiless cruelty, venal treachery, rampant competition, low politics and boundless personal ambition. New game series are rising, and others are starting their long slide into obscurity and defeat.

While I don't preorder much anyway, I do want to say I waited a month after this game's release to purchase it. I watched Angry Joe's review, lots of YouTube Let's Plays and read a lot of reviews, including seeking out the negative ones (go to metacritic, read the red and yellow ones).

I wanted to be informed, I wanted to know what I was getting into.

Interestingly enough, I bought this game after patch 4, and I absolutely LOVE this game.

Here is my reason for writing though:

The reason I can love it is because I made a conscious, well-informed choice to purchase a game with tons of flaws and a whole host of righteously angry people. They feel screwed. I do not.

I made a well informed choice, they did not. This is not at all a judgment, but pointing out that by putting yourself in the position of trusting the company to deliver, you can quickly and legitimately feel, "I got screwed," or "CA is the enemy," or "CA lied to me!!"

I was never lied to, because I read everything and lots of awesome people told the truth about the game. I still chose to buy it and therefore did it form a position of choice and power, not of blind victimism.

I advise this for everyone, as you will not feel so much pain for (seriously) getting much less than promised, and the devs would very quickly figure out they can't release crap and expect it to sell.

Did I mention I love this game?!?! Bet I wouldn't have week 1...

Your lookout. Your freedom to make that error.

Preordering has NEVER made any logical sense to me. It`s actually not only bad for Players in the long run, but the industry. Do I have to post that utube article for you and AlyssaFaden to watch? You`re actually doing everyone a disservice in the long run.

I partially agree with you on this. The people who pre-order just on the vague premise of a game are not making sound decisions. I only pre-order games that I know I will like and play. Admittedly looking back, I have not touched Rome 2 in about a week. I burn out on TW games anyway, and with school, I just do not have time to invest like I wanted to. It has not enthralled me like Shogun 2 did, although I like the Japanese period much better than Rome 2's time period. Do I regret spending the money on Rome 2? No. It gives me the opportunity to pick it back up when I feel like playing it again. Total War released during Fall is never a good idea for me because I have so many other games I would rather play.

One person pre-ordering messing everyone else up? I didnt know I had that much power! Sweet!

I didnt know YouTube had written articles.

I'm interested. I've never heard about that, Humble. Can you share that with me?

You should make this into a poll. HOnestly I might pre-order again if it's a beta, but I wanna know what I'm getting myself into next time. I'm kinda in between here.

I'd pre-order a beta, yes. Buy into an early game experience, knowing it's going to be broken, but able to give my input? Yeah, I'd do that for certain titles and certain game companies. Not sure I'd do it with CA ever again. In all truth I very rarely do it. Bethesda tend to be the only exception to that as I've tended to have amazing luck with their titles and have rarely/if ever experienced a bug. I know, I know, weird ...

I preordered Stronghold 3 and as soon as I got home got on the FF forums and saw hundreds of complaints. I luckily didn't take the shrink wrap off and waited for 3 weeks to see what improvements were made and finally decided to take it back to GS and refund it. Its too bad I didn't do the same with Rome 2. But none the less I will never preorder again.....especially from CA.

Thing is I should probably never have bought games with so many problems in the first place. My problem is that I like the TW games as a concept. I've enjoyed countless hours and sleepless nights in previous titles, and therefore I would like to try the game for myself, so I can make up my own mind about it instead of relying on others in this matter. It's kinda like looking at a train wreck: it's a hella ugly sight, but it's impossible to not look!
