Hey guys,
I'm honestly wondering if CA decided with Rome 2 to try a brand new "intelligent" AI (CAI and BAI). I think there are signs that the AI could be by far the best in all total war games but some hard coding or bugs restrains it from his full potential. I had some incredible WOW moments in R2TW, my favorite was when Carthage, Egypt and Macedon allied themselves against me (Rome) and then coordinated a full threeway assault on Rome. I had never seen the AI in past games do that before. But at the same time, I've seen countless times the CAI running away from defending their city even if they would have advantage with the garrison.
BAI is the same... I've seen them outflank me, wheel around and back stab my armies, I've seen fake retreats luring me into ambushed troops just to see the whole army turning around to engage my troops... but then I've seen some fights where the AI just stood still and let me harass them to death with slingers and javelins... seen guys rushing my slingers who were behind infantry just to see their charge stop, turn around, walk 50m, turn around, charge, stop etc....
I think CA decided to create a more independent and intelligent AI but when they realised that they were too ambitious they tried to patch it a little bit then release the game... (that would explain flaming torches IMO - as the AI can't seem to use siege equipment).
What do you think ? Am I the only one seeing true potential behind this stupid CAI and BAI ?
