    Default unit recruitment limits?

In my spartan campaign, at some point it was said I couldnt recruit more spartan hoplites..

now, I dont mind unit limits, but why the hell isnt it displayed on recruitment, like in previous games? you could see right away you could for example have six house guard regiments in empire total war, and how many you trained so far.

Are there any more of these invisible unit recruitment limitations I should be aware of? or did they only do this for Sparta?

    Heroes of Sparta: 2
    Royal Spartans: 6
    Spartan Hoplites: 20
    Spartan Pikes: 20

The only other units to have caps applied in campaign are some of the Hexareme+ ships (which really should be changed as they're too low by default)

your generals will probably take up all of the royal spartan limits. when I played sparta, unit limits were the first thing I removed. during the civil war, I fought against 6 stacks of royal spartans epic is the word for the ensuing battles.

That blew me away. "Turn on the TV," he'd say. "What are you seeing? People selling their products? No. People selling the fear of you having to live without their products." freakin' A, was he right. Fear of aging, fear of loneliness, fear of poverty, fear of failure. Fear is the most basic emotion we have. Fear is primal. Fear sells.” WWZ

Really? Sparta is the only faction with unit caps and they get a unit cap on 4 unit types? While Athens can recruit as many Royal Guards as the want, and Epirus can have unlimited Aspis Cavalry?

And now add that Sparta is the only greek faction without a harbour and therefore unable to trade. Does that mean someone at CA has as serious case of anti-spartanism?

Well, I think they did not have a naval port in history (quiet logical if you look where they are on the map http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sparta_territory.jpg). And when I think about Spartans, I actually do not imagine them as a nation of ship-makers. They had Athenians for that.

Still doesnt explain why they are the only nation with recruitment limits for their troops.

Should have given limits to the elite troops of all factions then, shouldnt be a limit for spartan hoplites and pikemen at all.
At the least it should be displayed in game so you will be aware of it right away and can easily keep track of the amount you have.

But still, if Spartan hoplites are limited, other units should be too. Carthaginian sacred band, macedonian companions, roman preatorians, gallic oathsworn, royal cathapracts, etc.
