Default My Rome 2 work list for CA

I think there is about 40% missing from this game right now so it started me thinking, what is complete?. What feature in the game needs absolutely no work?, you say graphics?, well i think even that needs work.

Here is a short list to represent the work CA should have fixed or needs re-working.

Graphics- Still is very poor performance, issues with water/shore and generally unfinished, testudo etc.. 25% more work needed.

Audio - Seems to be completely lacking but hey i am not a audio guy, 75% missing or 75% more work needed.

Campaign Map- Well it seems the only feature to be finished so i will say 5-10% more work needed(some cities need walls)

    Land Armies
    - Still lacking in roster, even more than any other TW game, Army caps and nurfs,Clone armies,700 units? 50% missing.

Navies- Due to game design these are almost 100% missing but i will be kind and say 75% incomplete.

CAi- Still lacking hard(CA im not 10yo anymore), lets say 50% incomplete.

BAi - harharhar! lets agree its 100% missing or incomplete, definitely the worst feature in game.

    Faction Tree- 100% missing

    Diplomacy- 50% broken(some might disagree)

Cut scenes- 100% missing due to design choice(oh gawd why!!)

Battle maps - Well this is where TW should shine right? but due to Ai nothing seems to work right, 25% missing?.

You can clearly see why i am saying there is 40% missing or incomplete in this game, the list above looks pretty bleak when you look at what is complete or functional. This is my own views and i may be alone with this but if you have anything to add, please do.

I dont see how this can be fixed, im sure CA cant find 40% more budget(again) to fix this game. This work should take about 6 months and add up to about 17gb worth of fixes and added content. This work will be needed to bring the game up to spin level of CA Advertisers.

This is my own views and you may all disagree with me.

Please add if you think i missed anything.

My work list is like this

    1) Fix BAI, it only works in field battles

    2) Fix Bugs and optimize the game

    3) Tweak the CAI, it doesn't know what the heck it's doing

    4) Release modding tools

The easiest way for me to say what needs fixing is by saying what they did well! here`s what CA did well with RTW2:

    1. Hyping the game.

    Ok..ok, I`ll start again.

    1. The Campaign map is very big and very nice looking.
    2. The animation in battles are obviously one of the most worked on areas.
    3. Theland visuals (trees, meadows) in battles maps are nice.
    4. The close up camera thing is nice.
    5. The varied speech is also very nice.
    6. I like the chance to work with Allies for a joint attack. Not seen it work properly yet.
    7. The number of Factions that can pop up.

That`s it. But this is almost all aesthetics, except for 6. It`s just not good enough unless you`re easily pleased by vacuousness.
Take this from the game and there`s 80% of the main game that needs completing.

Oh I know there are lot of missing/cut features and poorly thought out game mechanics or mechanics that just don't work at all. I have no illusions that those won't be patched into the game, my only hope is they manage to fix the A.I, optimize the game and squash the worst bugs and if they manage to make the battlesystem work decently then mods might make something out of this game...something great.

I don't see that CA will put in a family tree or expand on the political system or do much of anything other than fixing bugs and A.I. If anyone can't name an example from previous Total War title where a feature or a game mechanic has been added in via patch then please correct me.

Graphics and polish I think will be finished or near finished, same with CAI, BAI, and diplomacy.

But family trees/politics, cutscenes, armies, navies, etc will probably never be touched until the expansion (if we're lucky). I don't think Rome 2 will ever get to the same level as previous TW games (even Empire).

    1. The battle AI needs to get worked on. They have fixed some of the original bugs, but obviously ones still exist (especially with siege AI).
    2. The politics system needs to be reworked almost entirely. I would like to see a family tree, but at the very least they need to flesh out the political system and make it meaningful. Also, make the dilemma system understandable and less random.
    3. Naval transport system is a bit of a mess. Not only are they still too powerful in battles, but armies shouldn't be able to immediately make a navy anywhere in so little time.
    4. Add some cut scenes for agent actions.
    5. Historical events and general faction events over time.
    6. Modding tools and access to the audio files.

    1. Release modding tools.
    2. Amphibious Armies. This is laughable. Fix it, this is a game killer.
    3. CAI is broken, related to the point above but I have menaced an enemy settlement with 3 fullstacks, and the enemy marches three fullstacks away the next turn. OK I don't know if they have another problem on another border but I looked and I couldn't see one. Game killer.
    4. Seige BAI (although I have enjoyed field battles this weekend, was that the fourth patch?).

How to fix the amphibious armies? My suggestions:

1.There's already a "army with navy" function, the navy gets a little extra flag to show it is carrying an army. Make this the only way.

    2. Faction pays money for each unit transported a certain distance. Player marks the target, dialogue pops up "this will cost 1214 gold, continue Y/N?"

    3. Fleets have another "stance" (added to fullsails, patrol and raid) called "transport" or "ferry". Maybe they transport units across an uncontested sea zone (we may need a few more sea zones) or maybe just across their ZOC (to keep sea invasions to narrow sea zones like the English channel or the straits between Sicily and Carthage -all historical army crossing points).

I am an amateur and I am certain these can easily be implemented as I have seen the first two in older games and the last is a direct extension of some existing game features.
