Default No AI changes as of patch 4?

I haven't touched the game at all since patch 2. I return today, and play out a siege battle, and literally nothing has changed in terms of the AI mechanics. They still bumrush past my troops to get at that ing flag, ignoring them in the process and getting slaughtered, and formations are still a nonexistent blob.

What the ? Should I start a new campaign or is it like this for everyone else?

Some aspects of the AI have been improved but there are still serious issues with the Battle AI, especially in sieges. There are some sieges where the AI actually acts appropriately for me, but then I have plenty where they just bum rush the gate. I haven't seen the old bug where they would just stand there (that used to happen all the time to me).

Formations are improved but have brought their own issues. Non-professional troops still blob way too much. I personally recommend getting a mod like Close Combat that really make combat better. But, I realize people want the core game fixed and I agree with that.

Depending on my understanding of AI, I don't see how unit cohesion/formations/not blobbing would be a faculty of faulty AI, unless it involves AI on an individual unit scale---the way the export_descr_unit file of RTW1 did.

I was scrolling through and tagging a bunch of the mods I want to add on, but am fully aware that the constant patching is likely to render it useless to download it all now, but to wait until the period of time between Patch X1 and Patch X2 is 6 months rather than 2 weeks.

Not even going into the dismal experience of the "music", and the campaign map and its UI, and the obscene over-effects of squalor, and the virtually non-existent CAI.

Are you implying that combat mods are going to be at best quickfix measures and that if I want a firm, solid formation line like in RTW, M2TW, even Shogun2, I'm SOL?

    In a word, Yes.

We haven`t read anything on future AI (especially siege AI) work. But we`ll have to just see in patch 5.

Me I stays on patch 3 to keep the good mods I'm playing, seriously, these patches are nothing, thats kind of stuff that shouldn't exist. Its going to be 5 patches of "fixing the interface and the camera" and minor things. Thats Transports Fleets and Siege AI which need attention from C.A...or very very deep changes of the battle engine.

About formations and unit cohesion, I've tested several mods(Magnar, Radious), and in despite of these tweaks, the game remains completly allergic to mass effect. Seriously, 2 tiny lines can stop thousand of men, and soldiers often ignores themselves. This game is truly a regression when I'm comparing it to MTW2 mods.

How do you know they are going for the flag? Are you only assuming they are going for the flag?
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

I know this because I see them "attack" my hoplites en masse, see my hoplites suffer 3-4 casualties, and see several of their units break and rout, while those that manage to slip through just ignore the hoplites and dash for the flags instead of flanking.

I'm not ing stupid, this is incredibly obvious to notice whether you're zoomed in and watching the enemy units scoot up to yours without attacking, or zoomed out and seeing your unit suffer almost no casualties in the heat of battle in a game where the kill rate puts M2TW's vanilla kill rate to shame.

I've tried it and I haven't seen those that break through go for the flag. Instead they try to form a new line. I've seen the same thing in naval landings that are contested, a whole group runs to the outskirts of the town and forms a line.
