1GB or RAM is quite necessary, but what about 2GB?

How much does that really improve performance? Does it help more for RTS game than FPS ones?

At the moment having 2gb wont make much difference, 1gb is grand so long as the rest of your computer is at a similar level. I was amazed for example at the difference between 512 and 1024, but i doubt there are many games currently to take advantage of 2gb really

Both Voodoo and Alienware are extremely overpriced. The best choice right now would be a Dell or one of the online stores UnderdawgIV posted earlier.

Actually I've combed through all the other brands. Alienware is about $100-200 more expensive than most of their competitors. A lot of the other sites do not offer the 3 year warranty which IMO is a must.

The ABS machines look good, but, again, no 3 year warranty plan.
Then again, does it make sense to pay an extra %275 for a plan like that?

Okay scratch that, I found one on powernotebooks.com that's basically $700 cheaper. Only problem it's a "PowerPro", which claims to be "Built on Asus" sounds ghetto. But I don't mind as long as it works well. Does anyone actually know anything about this brand?

A Dell sounds cheap until you want to upgrade and you discover they use some freaky kind of modo that only works with official Dell components (RAM, videocards, etc.) and they are opverprized.

About the original question:
Girls wil walk away fro myou the SECOND you mention how much RAM your computer has.
"Hi girl, go home with me and I'll show you my new laptop....it has 2 GB of RAM!"

And I would 1 GB now and expand to 2GB only after the price has dropped.

Alienware is overpriced underquality equipment. Don't buy.

Go Newegg for PC's, and I would seriously advise you to go with a Mac for anything else. It will last you longer and it is worth the initial price increase because of all the extra stuff. But that's just my 2 cents.

Well, I got a laptop with the specs of the bottom level Area-51 m5550 from dell for $680 2 month ago. It is pretty hard to beat the price on dells when they are giving out discounts.

I previously had 1GB but the performance in Oblivion was horrible so I upgraded to 2GB and I noticed a huge performance increase. If any of you are planning on buying M2TW, I would recommend upgrading to 2GB.

My wonderful wife of 8 years gets 'oh so romantic' around upgrade time, as I generally make use of what-ever functional bits from my box that I'll no longer need to upgrade her's, as well as new bits to bring her's up to a reasonable performance (which might sound sexist, unless you know that she only plays 'card-games' and runs email vidios at most).

The morale of this story is that REAL men roll thier own, eh? Why let someone else tell you what your system should look like if you can learn to build (build it and they will come, lol) your own!

Not to mention that it's considerably less expensive to do your own 'parts finding' to match the desired specs....And I mean REALLY less expensive!

Well, you have to get it above a certain price, usually. I got a 40% off coupon and the only condition was that I buy a laptop that cost more then 1K to buy normally and buy a E1505.

Just wanted to put in another vote for Dell. I spent 7 years on the road, gaming on laptops, and the last several years were pretty smooth thanks to Dell. They make some decent laptops for gaming, and I am certain the price will beat alienware.

Also another tip for getting a better price, get the computer you want all lined out online, print off the specs, then call Dell. Tell them the specs you want, the price you saw online, then say you want a better deal. They will either give you a better price or upgrade some components for free.

I got a comp from them once where I saved $300 from the online price, got more ram and a printer then I would have ordering online.

Also if you plan to use it for a few years, get the best graphics card on it you can afford, trust me if you dont you will wish you had.
