The Slingers are hilariously overpowered right nowl
Fear the almighty pebble-throwers!

And NO, my avatar is the coat of arms from the Teutonic Knightly Order because they're awesome.
I can't say if they are overpowered or not, but slingers should not be harmless. I don't think it's pebbles they are throwing..
The game development business is one of bottomless greed, pitiless cruelty, venal treachery, rampant competition, low politics and boundless personal ambition. New game series are rising, and others are starting their long slide into obscurity and defeat.
balaerics do 24 dmg now un vetted what is this? THATS more than archers and they fire faster and have more range!!! what the hell!!!!?

balaeric slingers are better than archers.they are elite slinger units
Haven`t you noticed the thread that seems to want slingers even more powerful and insist they ruled `teh world?`
There`s some kind of weird insistence on this forum by some that slingers should somehow rule Roman armies and even Medieval armies, yet in all the historical stuff I`ve read and seen, slingers have always played a relatively minor role in war.
For any that care: Slingers are a support class of the ancient world, not a heavy duty class, just like snipers of today are a support class.
Slingers could be very heavy duty, lobbing heavy stones 200 grams to 500 grams. But this results in them being short range. Typically they used terrain to give them a defensive position. The problem is CA has combined the hitting power of heavy ammo with the range of light sling ammo. They were a very useful weapon from a city wall or stockade. Roman legionaries carried slings as an auxiliary weapon. The sling launcher weighed perhaps an ounce and ammo was readily available. Towards the late period of Rome the staff sling was commonly used. Heavy stone will cause nasty wounds. Sherwood and other forests in the middle ages was just as well known for outlaw stingers as it was it long-bowmen. They were readily employed by the Plantagenets who found them more useful than the Fyrd.
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!
I found them to be OP even at the game's release. Hell, even if my Hastati formed testudo they were getting absolutely minced by slingers, I was shocked.
Have CA made them even stronger since the release?
they are the best slingers in game, what is wrong with them being good? a unit of horse would still destroy them I bet.

a unit of any horse will rout them in seconds.
Slinger threads merged.
Baleric and Rhodian mercenaries I think are the only units in game with access to lead sling ammunition, they're supposed to be elite. (24 damage? so slightly better than the worst javelins I guess?) After that that I think the Britons and some eastern slingers get access to "improved slings" which do 16 damage and 3 AP damage, but everyone else only gets normal slings which do 12 damage and 2 AP.
Apparently, patch 5 is planning to finally give shields a missile block chance which should go a long ways towards solving a lot of these balance issues, but in the meantime I've just knocked down each sling type's AP down by 1 point to 3, 2, and 1 respectively and that feels about right in-game.
