Default Got a marriage offer from the AI, no idea how to replicate the conditions

    Hey all,

So by some random chance, one of my characters got married. As in the AI actually extended the offer and this Julii character, i.e. the family that I was controlling, had a chance to get married.

The problem is, I have trouble replicating the conditions that it occurred in. I know one of the issues with the marriage system is that the player characters never get offers from the AI. So I was hoping we could dig in a little bit and find out how this happened.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

All I remember from playing this save:

    1) Had about 30k in gold.

    2) Was just absentmindedly clicking end turn because I was testing the effects of the mod that I was working on.

    3) Had a lower influence than the other families before the marriage (I think about 18% compared to the leading group - the senate's ~37%).

    4) I remember the offer being very costly, since after clicking end turn, I only had 5k in gold left.

So from my meager reconstruction, the best I could come up with was to try and lower the costs for marriage offer, hoping that this would prompt the AI to offer it more. But I can't find the exact DB tables that control this kind of thing (i.e. political actions/decisions like assassinations, marriages, and spreading rumors).

Any kind souls want to help out? Thanks.

I don't have the db files to hand at the moment, but could these be in the dilemma or incident tables? I've only seen a character married once, and that too was because I had a large sum of money. If I recall correctly, marriage to a faction with lower standing increases influence, so in your case why did the AI marry your character when according to the game mechanics he would be losing senators? It's for reasons like this that I suspect that this may be more of a dilemma event (with choice of options) rather than a "political intrigue" event (which usually don't require any user input).

I also got several times in my campaign marriage offers - I was lower rank than other house - but I always had at the offer date a lot of cash +20.000.....so the trigger is definitely linked to the faction cash in the files....

There is a table called campaign_politics_strings and under there is a key called "marry_desc". I am trying to find a table or script that uses that key.

Yes, I've checked those dilemma tables too, but so far, I have not seen anything relating to marriages for political gain. Will continue looking. No idea about why the AI asked for marriage when it had the larger influence. Either I was wrong and it was actually one of the other families that asked for it, or the senate likes my money?

Yup, I definitely think the key here is a combination of influence + money.

Huh, thanks for pointing that out. Missed that one on my initial go around. I guess the next thing on the hunting list is "marry_desc."

As an aside, I've tried reloading the save at the point before the marriage offer came up and ending turn. What happens instead of the marriage offer now is an attempt by the AI to blackmail the same character instead. It might be a case of the AI wanting to lower my influence and there's a percent chance of it doing it either through marriage or other political actions. Need more investigation.

I think it is definitely related to influence level and might have a money requirement. There is probably a percentage chance at a certain influence level that the AI will attempt political intrigue. Then, there is a list of possible actions, like bribe, assassinate, marry, etc.

I can't find anything in the script sections, though.

I've had a couple of marriages since patch 1.4, from what i can gather marriages are expensive and its rare compared to say adoption/assassination. Maybe the cost per influence point is too low for a.i to consider. I'd be interested in knowing whether the opposing familes get an allowance or they "earn money" my being on the campaign map, or maybe its just faked into rng triggers. Has anyone seen any correlation between the frequency of political actions and opposing family members being particularly active on the campaign map?

When I push multiple promotions for my generals on the same turn it's pretty much guaranteed that someone's going to be assassinated next turn.

Maybe it's confirmation bias, but it does seem like money is mirrored between the factions, when I have lots of money coming in and in the bank, the rate of political intrigues is far more substantial than when I'm both cash poor and have a low income as well.
