Default How hard is it to fix the siege AI

hey guys we all know that the siege AI, in both attacking and defending is pretty much on full retard mode at this moment in time. One thing that really makes me angry is when im defending a walled city. ive got wall mounted ballistae and catapults but the enemy army always come from from the one side of the city which renders all my other defenses useless.

I personally would have preferred the Shogun 2 style where the enemy army would usually be split into 3-4 groups assaulting you from different places.

what i want to know is that how hard is it to fix this and if it is easy then why have CA replaced their brains with camel dung and not done it yet.
If you work to earn a living, why then do you work yourself to death?

They have improved torches fire range to burn down the gates. So what else do you want from them?
Very good rocking song. The message of the song: WHEN PEOPLE LEARN TRUTH ABOUT UKRAINIAN WAR, THEY WILL GO INSANE!! (I suggest to turn the english subtitles on. Its over 18only because of violent pictures) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AAR6nUV7VI

I had 3 AI three armies attack in my last major walled city garrison defense. The main land assault I able to halt (killing their general greatly reduced their effectiveness), however those howitzer ballistas shot up my flag point. The sea assault got scuttled. But I couldn't defend against the land assault coming from the other side when they captured two flag points.

I can't say I saw anything broken, what should I look for?
Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

Well, a decade doesn't seem to have done it, so maybe don't expect a real solution any time soon.......

In my opinion it's not only AI programmer(s) fault, but also engine's fault, that cannot bears battlefields with a lot of objects (walls and houses) that create pathfinding problems.
Till now, for example, they have not been able to let the AI using their rams. A really simple thing, but i bet the engine is giving nightmares to programmers that are trying (??) to let this possible without side effects.
Disclaimer: the post above is way way prealpha, the final version will be way better than this.

If the AI programmer had actually said this, I would`ve been less unhappy, but the fact is...he said... (it`s worth repeating and even more watching him lounge and say it blatantly).

"Um-so we introduced a new system into R2 which gives the AI much more sophisticated forward modelling or prediction of the outcome of a battle between two specific units."
"We`ve also developed new technology altogther, so we have an entirely new siege battle AI!"
This is just some of what the AI Dev said about the AI to come in RTW2.

Seriously, I sit there studying his face so I can see what a constantly lying person looks like. It`s a useful psychological study..

While i agree with you champ, this is not what we were shown or told in the Carthage video with soldiers going through the streets. We were told this would be the next super Ai.

Really heads should roll if i done a job so poorly as the Ai programmer.

Well in custom games even though the enemy always deploys in a set position I have seen it move siege towers to other sections of the city walls. The problem I find is that it just sits there with the rest of its army doing nothing. Even worse it can't seem to use rams. It will start with units mannning them if thats all you set up the game for them to use but it will still drop them at a moments notice. Its very annoying and I really wish somebody knew how to fix it.

not sure if they have fixed this problem since the last patch, haven't played it but. before the enemy ai would put all their men infront of my gates, begin to torch it. then stop. and they will just be idle until they are all shot to death from my towers. the ai would reserve 3 groups back, until they die and then they would torch the rest of the gate. or if i tried to sally out from another gate the bug would stop and they would continue torching with full army. anyone else experienced this?
