How to edit shield colors (not patterns)
Hi I want to edit the roman shields (legionares), they are too red, too saturated. The roman auxilia shields are ok, I want to match the color.
Thanks!

Re: How to edit shield colors (not patterns)
Well you could use the mask0, mask1 and mask 2 arguments to color shields.
mask0 - faction's primary color
mask1 - faction's secondary color
mask2 - faction's tertiary color
I take it you don't like Rome's primary color, so you'll have to edit their colors in the faction_uniform_color table (or something like this, I can't check at the moment)
Basically you'll have to make a small mod, modifying one of rome's colors to the one you want, and include the shield's modified variantmeshdefinition files you want to change.

Hmm...it might be that the two shields use a different mask, though both of them are red. Or one is a transparent shield design and the other is a colored one.
I can't check it atm, but I can take a look at it when I get home.

Re: How to edit shield colors (not patterns)
Here is what I found:
I checked and all roman shield patterns use transparent designs, so the problem lies with the masks. I looked into the two shield types variantmesh file and this might be the culprit:
The auxiliary shields use this mask -> mask0="2" mask2="0" or no mask at all;
while the legionary shields use this one -> mask1="2" mask2="1"
I suggest your do some testing with it, but it seems they refer to the same secondary color, so your solution might be deleting the masks from the roman_legionary.variantmeshdefinition. I hope this helps.

Re: How to edit shield colors (not patterns)
I didn't notice any change in the colors. I will experiment further.
Thanks!
EDIT: Hmm, I believe the problem is with the specular texture of the shield. There is a difference in the color between legionary and aux. shield specular texture. I noticed that, because according to the lighting, in some cloudy battles the legionares shields are fine (desaturated red), but on more sunny battles, the shields are too red. The aux shields are ok on sunny battles.
