Why can't I convince my friends to open a trade route with me?

I am offering some of them over a million gold and I have relations +60, and still no trade route!!!

What is wrong with me!?

I know this is hard to face, but you.... you smell. Like real bad. Like you haven´t had a shower in years. And that´s why they won´t trade with you.

On a more serious note, if you have a million gold, you should have a sizeable empire. Therefore, it shouldn´t be about missing trade resources. Therefore, I don´t really know. You could try to offer non aggression pacts to get a further boost to relations.

If you are going for an economic victory and need trade routes, you might be able to make factions your clients or satrapies and then force them to accept trade. That doesn´t work for the barbarian factions.

So is there a special key to "force" someone to have a trade route? And yes, I am trying to get an economic victory. Is there a way to just... I dunno. Mod the game? Is there some way to find out why they aren't giving me a trade route? (Am I too big?)

it all comes down to what resources you have, if you dont have anything then why should anyone trade with you. Ive just conquered from Bactria up to Jerusalem in my parthian campaign and people are asking me for trade agreements and offering me money for them.

O_o; I have all the resources! And they have none. =( I haven't warred with them or anything. Maybe there's a "i won't help dominant faction no matter what" code.

Yeah, early game it is sometimes difficult to get several trade agreements, but about mid-game I can get every single faction to trade with me, one way or another.

I just wish they would all stop asking for non-aggression pacts. They might trade with me, but I still want to destroy them sooner or later.

Patch 4 beta has fixed trading for me. Diplomacy is MUCH better.

What I meant by "force" is the following:

Option 1: Declare War and move an overwhelming force into their land. Then offer peace + trade. If you are powerful enough, that works. You do get diplomatic penalties for declaring war, but not as much as if you were actually fighting.

Option 2: Conquer last settlement and select "subjugate". Then go to diplomacy and offer your new client/satrapy trade. Seems to work now, didn´t really work in 1.0.

Apart from that, I have no tips for getting people to trade. There seems to be something random. Like just now, an african tribe offered trade. Then, Lybia conquered the settlement that was my connection to the tribe. I took it back, and now they will not accept a trade agreement again. WTF?
