Default I've been hurt before, is this game worth getting?

RTW2 is getting a lot of heat around here. I've been burned once this year from SimCity, not sure I wanna repeat that horrible experience. If you haven't played the new SimCity then you're probably a happy person who loves life, if you have played it then I send my sympathy to you, also the lead designer just came out and said that bigger maps are never happening. Origin lost it's place on my desktop after reading that.

After EA betrayed my trust, I decided to never pre-order again, in fact, I decide to never buy a game at launch again. It's been a month now with 4 patches under it's belt (holy it must have sucked at launch).

    My Question:

    IS THIS GAME WORTH IT?

Also, have the patches made improvements?

Aside from game breaking bugs and mental AI, is the game optimization up to snuff?

    My system-

    AMD PHENOM II X4 965
    4GB RAM
    NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 570

If you could comment on whether my system is able to run the game on decent settings (mid-high)

I'm not buying this game if I need a new GPU. I'll just wait it out until next year.

    Thanks!

Definitely not. I pre-ordered it and havent played almost for a month because game is broken mess. Better to wait till next year and get it during sale with 75% discount. I would say 10 dollars are the best price for this beta garbage

the point of benchmark? Actuall fps is 3 to 4 times smaller. In benchmark I also have have about 40 fps. During big battles when I zoom in I have about 2-10 fps.

please. it will get from 25% to 50% discount after 3 month like other major titles have.

all including recent: Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 2, etc. For example Bioshock - Release date March 26, 2013 and 33% discount already in May. On summer sale it was already 66% off

i dont know if any of that is true Vilkas09. The only way to prove it is to find a current major game that was released 3 months ago and then post a link to a discount from a reputable seller. Shogun 2 wasnt discounted for over a year. I even remember M2 being sold for £34.99 and then seeing it 18 months later still being sold for £35 from HMV. But this is all hearsay and anecdotal evidence from both of us.

The points ? To reply to the OP so I give example for my rig. My experience however is different, When I zoom in my FPS is actually goes up during full stack battles. Eye view now lag which goes down to maybe 5 FPS.

If your not short on money and if your pc can handle it, then buy it.

Its a fun game but yes its still unfinished. You will get irritated alot in the game. But im sure you will also enjoy it the painfull expierence.

No. Get MTW 2/Kingdoms and some awesome mods. No amount of patching will fix this broken piece of crap.
Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

    Disregard RTW2 - acquire Europa Barbarorum 2.

It's worth getting if you like TW.

With that hardware you'll be playing all low settings. Early in game it will be fast but become laggy as you spread on the campaign map.

The GPU isn't quite the serious issue, a gtx 770 is good choice, the titan being way too expensive. For that matter you try staying with 570 and save even more money. But I suspect what the game needs is a 2011 pin Core 7. The 1150 pin might be semi ok, but really it is bargain basement dressing itself as something good.

    Mine is as follows:

    i3-2100 3.1 mhz
    4GB Ram
    ATI HD 5770

The game auto detects my system as Very High.
All lowest settings for you too. Replace the i3 with a quad i5.

The auto detect put me on extreme but my Core 2 quad is again really all low settings.

Proculus: Divine Caesar, PLEASE! What have I done? Why am I here?
    Caligula: Treason!
Proculus: Treason? I have always been loyal to you!
Caligula: [laughs insanely] That IS your treason! You're an honest man, Proculus, which means a bad Roman! Therefore, you are a traitor! Logical, hmm? Ha, ha, ha!

Nah. I don't play battle close ups most of the time. In fact I set unit numbers, units and buildings to ultra. Then I run the game and check the gfx log which stuff got downgraded (like general textures, sky etc) depending on what the log said.

I say fairly good and acceptable to me.

These are what look with my rig.

Wait - get it later when it is on sale. By then it may be better, too.

I had a system very like yours (AMD phenom 970, 6 gig ram), got a new graphics card and i5 intel, didn`t make that much difference compared. But it was better. RTW2 really needs a good cpu.

Anyway, if you`ve been hurt before, please don`t get this yet. Look around you, look at the evidence. it`s like a man walking into a room with a golden chest in the middle, but a dozen people lie dead and wounded around it. There`s a reason why. Wait a few months, check on the forums, see if the Patches are being made to fix this. RTW2 needs a lot of work and no one really knows if CA are going to keep doing it.

Or you`ll be hurt again. Gaming is becoming a bit of a con lately if you don`t really look and check first.

Pick it up on sale later, that way you'll get a patched product for a reasonable price. Also then there should be some excellent mods out to improve the game.

Patch 4 beta made the game playable. Technically, fps increased and AI turn's lag on strategic map much reduced. Diplomacy finally viable. Battle AI just acceptable, apart from ai faction sieging a city with walls.
Various interface aspects yet to be improved (I listed them in another thread), but the changes have been relevant.
