    Default Inheriting Seleucid satrapies

Playing as Egypt, I destroyed the Seleucids and made the Seleucids my own satrapy. In so doing, I appear to have inherited their satraps. This is kinda nice, as it gave a good income boost, but it also made further eastern conquest impossible, as virtually all the map over there are now my satraps.

Anyways, has anyone else seen this? It seems like an easy way to become a great power.

In my mak campaign (pre-patch 3) I had done the same to Selucids - made them my client state. However, even though they (the selucids) continued to retain their satrapies, the satrapies were not trasferred to me. I was merely at peace with them.

Depends on a victory condition. It normally states, hold so many settlements/regions/provinces either directly or through "military alliances, clients/satrapies". (haven't seen defensive allies though, I think in most cases the requirement is to be military allies). This applies to most victory conditions that I have seen, so you don't have to hold settlements directly.
Also client states and satrapies do get inherited, which is logical. If you subjugate an overlord of 2 satrapies, they don't become free, but become your satrapies. I like this feature.

I too gained all their Satrapies as my own when I attacked them. but I don't have the ability to use the province region bonus when my satraps or clients share or entirely own a region. Which I think is a bit naff. and my satrapies don't count for some objective conditions either. you have to directly own all provinces in a region to get the full benefits, not through clients or satrapies.

Main benefit to gaining all those satrapy states though. They kept their massive armies. I managed to take the selucids cities without engaging any of their armies :-)

now when I have a war or breakaway state I hardly need to use my own troops.

yes the order to attack a city is a good feature that they introduced

however while you dont get the entire bonus of a full province, you get a cut from the AI profits and that cut is without corruption which at mid lat game is over 50%

Hmm, I accepted Seleucid offer to become my vassal and DID NOT inherit their Satrapies. All of them remained as Satrapies of my vassal (Seleucids)

COOL!! This is a great feature! Good on CA for implementing this! OP don't know why you're so depressed about it, as it's clearly a good thing. If you're desperate about conquest, just declare on them.

My only addition to this minor mechanic is that I'd like to see satrapies and client states begin to break away from their overlords if they see them to be dying out. If the balance of power for vassals to hegemonies becomes even, there should be a good chance that the client state/satrapy would break away, or even declare war on them. This would mean that you're not likely to inherit ALL of Selukos' satrapies.

I am hardly depressed about it. It clearly is a good thing.

However, it is not as simplistically and unreservedly good as one might imagine. First of all, I noticed I was getting alot more negative attention from other powers as the hegemon in the east. As a result, trade agreements were very difficult to get (yes including with the new satraps -- I feel that this should be nearly automatic). Also, if I wanted to own for myself some of the more valuable eastern provinces, such as Mesopotamia, I would need to cancel the satrapy and declare war on a number of satraps.

So it seems it is random whether you inherit the Seleucid satraps. It made for a different game with little trade. Interesting, and fun.

I did that once, then after a couple of turns some factions decided to declare war on the Seleucids. I thought interesting finally have some wars and decided to see how far it would go. Then literally every other faction that was alive declared war on either me or the Seleucids. This was I think patch 2.
