Default Rome 2 advertised on TV

Yep, that's right. Saw it today on the Military Channel. Buy Rome 2 and get a chance at winning a trip for two to Rome. Why didn't preorders get this? Anyway, as far as I can remember, this is the first Total War game I've ever seen advertised on TV. It's hard to believe they're still hyping it when it still hasn't been fixed. I haven't played in weeks.

Not only that, but it`s also where some of the pre-order profits have no doubt gone.
Seriously, it`s a slap in the face of everyone who still has this bugged up game and only the most naive can say otherwise.

Not surprised CA don`t show their face. What an insult.

I've been listening to you whine for hours now. At first I thought you just passionately hated the game more than I like it. Now I'm not so sure. Who in the hell do you think you are to call me naive for not being insulted by advertising for a game that I enjoyed. Take your act somewhere else, you're full of negativity.

Well, has anyone confronted you yet as to why you're still here? Mainly forums are for people to talk about a game's aspects, not bad-mouth it, and anyone who disagrees with you, for a month straight in inexcusably off-topic circumstances and threads/situations.

You're not the only one by far, and that's a statistic I'm sure you're aware of. It's just awful to come to the forums expecting to discuss campaigns and game-play and see nothing but negativity. It actually makes the game less enjoyable.

No, development budgets and advertising budgets are two different things. If the rumor is true and development budget was 2 million dollars, then the advertising budget could be the same amount of money again. The advertising is very much the work of the publisher however, in this case Sega.

Sorry, what? The one who spreads such rumors must be braindead. AAA RTS title with development budget of 2 mil? Makes zero sense.

The figure sounds about right going by the number of copies they tend to sell. At the moment the amount of money at the retail level would be about 12 million dollars, Sega only gets part of that. That's already most of the money they going to make and even if Sega gets half of that they've only broken even.

Agreed that $2 million is complete nonsense. That amount of money will barely cover the salary of 10 employees for two years and their associated overhead and other indirect costs. A good shortcut is that a company will pay out about 25% of its expenditures in direct salaries with the rest going to benefits, taxes, rent, overhead, equipment expenses, etc. (another way to look at it is to multiply an employee's salary by 3 to get a rough idea what it "costs" to run a business). I have no idea how how much CA pays their employees, or exactly how long they developed the game (probably there was some project overlap), but based on the figure of 300 employees on their website, a development budget closer to $30-40 million is probably more accurate.

The $2 million dollars is for CA to develop the game. It isn't their only of funding nor their only project. They still get income from previous games and DLC's and other specialist work. Rome 1 in all its glory can still be purchased. Sega pointed out that the total sales in the course of a year (or more) was 2 million TW titles (including DLC's).

but based on the figure of 300 employees on their website, a development budget closer to $30-40 million is probably more accurate.
They're not all permanent employees and many are free lance, they are people that worked for a term. Their press photo shows a staff gathering of about 70 people and they are closing down their second largest office in Aus. To date total retail sales of Rome 2 have only amounted to about 13 million dollars worth. They'll be lucky if they can double that figure over the 12 months.

I hear CA are looking for more spokespeople to head up their next Rome 2 advertsing campaign in the cinemas, Karamazovmm. Why don`t you apply? I`m sure you`d be perfect, especially if you did it free.

haha yeah like Mercedes releasing their brand new sports car! all an advert needs is the exterior view, noone sees beneath the hood. they don't know that the engine is "still in production", or being "öptimized".

Gets shipped to your home once you bought it only to be told "Oh you didn't know we don't include an engine?"

So they'll spend money on sending 2 people who probably aren't loyal TW fans on a nice holiday BEFORE they fix it for everyone else? CA has officially lost its soul.

Do we have any proof on this? I don`t doubt it, but it would be nice to know for certain. I don`t have the channel myself.

OK, I just went to the website and it turns out you don't have to buy the game to enter. They're just using this as a way to advertise the game. Seems to me the pre-orders should have had one of these just for them. Here's the link: http://military.discovery.com/totalwar.htm
