Storm's End, Seat of House Baratheon

    Regional Bonuses for Storm's End

Mythical fortress: Storm's End is one of the oldest strongholds in Westeros, allegedly built by the Storm King Durran during the Sawn Age. Legends say that the Children of the Forest helped him construct the castle, weaving their magics into the stone walls, so that the vicous winds could find no purchase. Others say that Durran was aided in the construction by a young Bran the Builder. Regardless, Storm's End has endured many sieges in it's time, but has rarely been taken. +4 to seige defense rolls.
Storm's End is known for being able to marshall a large force. +5% to total levy size from this region of each unit.
Storm's End is renowned for its blacksmiths. 5% discount on all weapons and armour.

The mighty fortress of Storm's End is both a formidable castle as well as a vital port for the Stormlands. It is also known as one of the oldest castles in all of Westeros. The castle was built by the Storm King, Durran, who was said to have been helped by an ancient race called "The Children of Forest," a race that pre-dates the First Men by thousands of years perhaps, during the Dawn Age. Nonetheless, the Storm Kings that reigned before House Baratheon had truly built a mighty testament to the strength of the Stormlands. After the last of the Storm Kings were killed during the War of Conquest, Aegon I rewarded his legitimized bastard brother, Orys Baratheon, with the Stormlands. Thus the Baratheons made Storm's End their home just as the Storm Kings did before them.

    House and Character Information

    House Baratheon of the Stormlands

Though a significant house among Westeros, House Baratheon was once one of foreign origins. The family tree can trace its ancestry to the legitimized bastard brother of Aegon I, Orys Baratheon and the daughter of the last Storm King, Argilac the Arrogant. Thus it is a known fact that the Baratheons have distant ties with ruling Targaryens, whereas the Targaryens kept their Valyrian features, future Baratheons after Orys inherited darker hair and features of the native Stormlanders. House Baratheon rules over the Stormlands, a rugged terrain where hardy people, like the Valemen and Northerners, live and thrive. Since the days of Aegon I to the present rule of Daeron II, the Stormlands served as one of the territories that was a first line defense against the Martell and the Dorne. Now with the recent marriages and intrigues since Baelor the Blessed, the Dornish Marches remain a quiet frontier for now.

The Baratheons rule from the ancient fortress-city of Storm's End, one of the strongest castles in all of Westeros. It is believed to have been built by the first Storm King, Durran, with the help of an ancient race called 'the Children of the Forest,' which predates the First Men by thousands of years. Nonetheless, whether the rumors were true or not, the Storm Kings created a formidable castle out of Storm's End. It serves as the seat of power for the Baratheons since its founding under Orys Baratheon.

Meldred 'the Kingmaker' Baratheon, Lord of Storm's End

    Age: 45
Titles: Lord Paramount of the Stormlands and Lord of Storm's End
Marital Status: Married to Ravella of House Dondarrion and daughter of Old Lord Dondarrion
Children: Galladon 'the Young Stag' Baratheon (born 178 AL), Orys 'of the Storm' Baratheon (born 182 AL), Gwyneth 'the Little Doe' Baratheon (born 182 AL), Lyessa 'the Little Fawn' Baratheon (born 185 AL) and Urragon Baratheon (Born 187 AL)
Traits (14 points): +4 duel, +3 field battle rolls, +3 survival, +2 escape and
    Tier 2 income (+5% earned)

Meldred Baratheon is the third son of the late Lord of the Storm's End, Godric Baratheon, whose life saw the turbulent and corrupt reign of Aegon IV 'the Unworthy.' By the time Godric died, his eldest sons had already departed the living world, thus leaving Meldred to rule Storm's End and the whole of the Stormlands. The Baratheon is grateful that his father died after Aegon IV, allowing him to rule without such a cruel and corrupt King gripping the land. Despite being the third in line to succeed, Godric still gave attention to his son, granting him a proper education typical for any high Westerosi noblemen. Meldred excelled in swordsmanship as well as warfare and administration. His elder brothers, similar in their taste for warfare, lacked the charisma and steady grip that Meldred inherited from his father. In a ways, the Stormlands were blessed to have Meldred live longer than his brothers and thus succeed his father. However, Meldred does his share his father's appetite for wine as well as inheriting a quick temper. Some of his actions, in order to keep his firm grip upon the land, have sometimes yielded a cruel look upon the Baratheon Lord.

While Meldred hoped for a peaceful life in the reign of Daeron II, he began to sense tensions among the Targaryens and the Great Bastards of Aegon IV. In a gesture unlike ever before, Aegon IV legitimized all his bastards. Daeron inherited the throne, but his half-brothers still roamed freely with a legitimate claim to the throne. The Baratheon Lord takes a dislike towards the Dornish bride that the King has wedded, who he sees as his natural rival in the South, as well as the foreign influences brought to the court in King's Landing. It is still undetermined where Meldred's loyalties lie; though he has shown great amounts of it towards Daeron II. However, with the tensions between King and vassal as well as among the family, Meldred wishes to see how the drama unfolds and then determine the Stormlands path.

    Galladon 'the Young Stag' Baratheon

    Age: 27
Titles: Heir to Storm's End, Lord of Galemonth and the Stag Knight
Marital Status: Married to Lady Swann
Children: Arianne Baratheon (born 203 AL, 3 years old), Alysanne Baratheon (born 205 AL, 2 year old) and Lyonel Baratheon (born 207 AL)
Traits (8 points): +4 duel (+2 from full set of armor), +2 survival, +2 escape, +2 jouster

Galladon Baratheon, later dubbed 'the Young Stag' and elevated as the 'Stag Knight of the Stormlands,' is the firstborn son of Meldred Baratheon and his wife, Lady Ravella of House Dondarrion. Galladon was born with bright blue eyes, the brightest eyes ever seen in the Stormlands. The Maester who witnessed the birthing of this son believed that Galladon was to become a knight of pure intentions and noble virtues; one whose blade will shrine the brightest. The young man has proven such a prediction; like his father, Galladon excelled with swordsmanship and earned the title 'the Stag Knight' by his tutor and the Lords of the land. Later, the heir was named Lord of Galemonth, granting him his own noble title and an income that he could use. Galladon even crafts his own weapons, having learned how to use a smithy by Storm's End own master blacksmith. While the young man hates administration and finances, sighting he was never good at it, Galladon enjoys the thrill of hunting, tournaments and duels.

    Orys 'of the Storm' Baratheon

    Age: 23
    Titles: The Storm Knight
    Marital Status: N/A
    Children: N/A
    Traits (6 points): +2 survival, +2 duel, +2 escape

Orys Baratheon is the second son of Lord Baratheon and his wife, Lady Ravella and the twin brother of 'the Little Doe,' Gwyneth Baratheon. Orys takes more towards his mother in appearance while completely opposite of his elder brother Galladon and Meldred, his father. Orys enjoys reading and writing poetry by candlelight; though has been forced to learn the art of using a sword and shield despite his disagreements with it. Despite his lacking in martial ability, Orys was granted the status 'The Storm Knight' in order to elevate his importance among the Baratheons and the Lords of the Stormlands. The young Baratheon enjoys the company of his reckless and rash brother, Galladon, despite their polar opposites. Some Lords have stated "Look to Galladon for the Warrior and look to Orys for the Crone," signifying Galladon as the true knight while his younger brother holds the wisdom. Currently Orys is being trained by Galladon to understand blades and shields despite his great disinterest in swordsmanship.

Lord Swann arrives at the head of a small retinue of knights, sending forth a squire to request entry into Storm's End so the lord could meet with his overlord, also to renew the fealty of Stonehelm to Storm's End.

The gates open as Lord Swann's retinue arrives at Storm's End. A small cadre of Stormlander Knights stand in the courtyard, led by Galladon Baratheon, Lord of Galemonth. As Lord Swann dismounts, Galladon bows to the High Lord of Stonehelm and one of the Marcher Lords. Galladon approaches Lord Swann after bowing.

My Lord Swann, it is good to see you have come to Storm's End. My father is currently trying to help my...poor brother Orys in teaching him some fighting skills.

Lord Malwyn bows in return to Galladon. "It is a pleasure to visit such a historical castle, my lord." He nods, looking around as if trying to see the Lord Baratheon and his son. "I can understand the difficulty of training, my son had difficulty understanding the basics of swordplay, thankfully he has improved."

Galladon bows and beckons Lord Swann to follow him. They would venture into a sparring area where Meldred was trying to get Orys better at swordsmanship. The younger Baratheon had no talent whatsoever...and after an enduring round, Meldred had his son depart for his books once more. He sighed lightly, wiping his face with some water. Galladon approaches his father, gesturing to Lord Swann. Lord Baratheon stands up.

Little after the Raven of Daemon Blackyre arrives to Griffin Roost's, Tytos sends a representative to know Lord Baratheon's stance, which he hopes is a staunch defense of the Crown, and Daeron II. Such the messenger arrives to the gates of Storm's End.

But Tytos does not know that Meldred Baratheon's is not at his seat, but talking with Daemon and Lord Tyrell.

Tytos has seen the message sent by Lord Baratheon, inmediately takes a horse and his retinue of men at arms. Rides swiftly to Storm's End.
    Soon arrives to the gates:

"Tytos Connington, Lord of Griffin's Roost has arrived, open the gates! We come under request of Lord Baratheon"

The gates open, revealing a group of guards who escort Tytos to the keep. Once there, Lord Connington is rushed into a war room where Meldred sits in a chair; his son and heir, Galladon, standing nearby. He stands up at the sight of Tytos.

Lord Connington, it is good to see you have come to my summons. Sit, sit, please.

Lord Connington, it is good to see you have come to my summons. Sit, sit, please.
Tytos feels uneasy and uncomfortable, it seemed the Stag wanted to intimidate the Griffin, but Conningtons were there before the very first Baratheon arrived, he would not be so easy to frighten. And the mail he wears under his velvet and silken clothes did give him some relief, together the camouflaged dagger in the back. Tytos knows the talk won't be easy, and he had to endure it. He walks slowly to the chair, and sits, leaving the tabble between him and the Baratheons, but at the sime time from a place he could watch the door. Tytos tries to look relaxed, but his chest, up-dow-up-down, said the opposite. He tried to not move a single muscle in his face.

    "My lord"

And waits to Lord Baratheon. Targaryens... The loyalty to the Dragon always implies problems... And benefits, of course. At least Maegar and Alysanne were far, far away. In the very King's Court.

Meldred strokes his chin as he sits in his chair. Galladon looks over at his father quietly as Lord Baratheon remained silent. Then after sometime, Meldred leans forward in his chair, looking at Lord Connington.

Besides Lord Dondarrion, my father-in-law and Lord Swann, you are among my most trusted advisers, Tytos. When I was in the Reach, arranging a marriage for Galladon here with House Tyrell...Daemon Blackfyre came; offering an ultimatum to win the aid of the Stormlands in this war he so desires.

Lord Baratheon has a map of Westeros brought up. Galladon offers his father a quill; Meldred begins to draw lives into city of Wyl and the Prince's Pass. Then draw the Stormlands engulfing Summerhall, a personal fief of House Targaryen. Then draws a circle over King's Landing.

Daemon offered these terms...the Stormlands will gain Summerhall as well as either the City of Wyl or the Prince's Pass as we desire. And finally...Daemon offered a permanent position for House Baratheon upon the Small Council. That even includes the Hand of the King. Supporting His Grace, Daeron, we will keep the peace of the Dorne.

Meldred then looks at Connington with a serious face.

Malwyn nods to Connington before replying. "Blackfyre seems to promise much, but he offers a poisoned gift, my lord. The Dornish will never accept your rule, and I know not how far the Martells and either Yronwood or Fowler will go to reclaim their lost land. It could lead to conflict with them for years to come after the rebellion ends and Blackfyre wins." He pauses, and then moves over to the map. "As for the peace with Dorne, it may last, but I doubt the Marcher Lords under Lord Caron are so willing to let their ancestral grudges die." Swann stares at the map for about a minute in thought. "I would have to say either neutrality or the King, my lord. As how do we not know Blackfyre is making similar promises to other lords he has won the support over, and it so happens you and this other lord desire the same position?

Phewww, thinks Tytos, then he doesn't know I'm trying to get profit from the Iron Throne declaring my loyalty to the King... Well then...

You flatter me my Lord Baratheon. But the Daemon's offer troubles me. While it offers you and incredible amount of wealth and power, and nearly a absolute authority over the Stormlands, it's not a safe assumption that he will win the war. And you know how usually the Iron Throne pays treason, Daeron may look kind, but there are also ruthless princes, like Maekar. On the other hand if we keep the Alliance with Daeron, we will not only get higher in the King's regards, but may benefit from the peace with Dorne. The Dornish, aside our old grievances, have done an effort to join the Seven Kingdoms, they have married with the Dragon, and that is enough as a prove of their intetions. In fact if we do break with Daeron, Dorne's will stay loyal, and such the Martells could replace your Lordship as the main authority in the southern part of the realm. If Daemon looses the war, and we with him, the consequences could be...

I myself have been stablishing new ties with the Dornish, a marriage with the Yronwoods for my second son. Believe my Lord Baratheon the Dornish have much more to offer than we can believe. And remember if war finally erupts, if we side with the Iron Throne, and win, we should think the amount of riches that a defeated, and plundered, Reach would give us.

As Lord Swann says, we shall not choose Daemon's side, but I say even more, you, my Lord, shall pledge loyalty to the Iron Throne, and march into the Reach.

Meldred listens to Tytos. Lord Connington was getting cozy with the Dorne this easily? And advocating their benefits? This deeply troubled Lord Baratheon, especially since the lady who had been promised to his second son was seen dancing with a Dornish Prince and seemed to have a foul attitude towards the proposal. Meldred began to wonder if it would be a good idea to keep an eye on Lord Connington. After his thoughts ran through his mind, Lord Baratheon stands up straighter, looking at Lord Connington.

Go to King's Landing and represent the interests and intent of the Stormlands. I have heard they have a Loyalist War Council going on; I must remain in the Stormlands while my son and I drum up the levies and prepare to march.

He then turns to Lord Swann.

Gather your levies, Lord Swann and march to Storm's End. That is where our forces will gather before marching to the aid of the Iron Throne.

A hint of rage stained Lord Tytos' face, the Baratheon tried to keep him away from Griffin's Roost and Dorne... His voice became harsh and cold, even if he tried to conceal it:

"Then we will support Daeron, which is the right choice. However, my Lord, Maegar is in King's Landing already, he's invested with my whole authority, it's no need to send me to the King's Court. I shall join your host in Storm's End, my companies will be ready soon"

Malwyn bows. "I shall send a raven to Stonehelm and my vassals to raise the banners, then to march onto Storm's End."

Meldred's eyebrow went up slightly, not at the cold and harsh tone, but the fact that one of Connington's sons was already at the War Council in King's Landing. Lord Baratheon looks at Tytos for awhile as if contemplating something within his mind then turns away to the map of the Stormlands.

Let it be so then, Lord Connington. Let it be so.

"If you want, My Lord, you may send your orders to my son Maegar, he'll wait your indications"

"My Lord Baratheon, Lord Swann, regards"

Tytos slightly bows. Then leaves the hall quickly, nearly runs to his horse and gallops with haste to Griffin's Roost, followed by his men-at-arms.
