    Default Things you have noticed in patch 4 - weird stuff

    Friends, Romans, fellow beta-testers, lend me your ears. I want to talk to you about things patch 4 beta does above in beyond the official notes.

    First, AI morale seems to have been increased considerably. I´m playing on VH/VH, and enemy slingers (completely unexperienced) will fight in melee until 2/3 of their unit is dead. Elite infantry units (i.E. Hellenic Royal Guards) I´ve seen "wavering" with only 1 (!) of 120 soldiers still alive, flanked and under missile fire. Cavalry is routinely still on the field with 5 of 60 soldiers left.

    Anyone noticed the same? It seems that CA took an easy way to increase the difficulty by giving the AI bonuses to morale.

    Second, gates seem to have been reinforced. Burning them is still possible, but will take a lot longer. With five units throwing torches, gates will take maybe 5 % damage - instead of the ca. 33 % in the last patch.

    Of course, that spells doom for poor Battle-AI. If it is still unable to use siege equipment, enemies will now die in front of the gates instead of under it. Sieges take a lot longer now (and are harder if you don´t build or bring siege equipment).

    Third, I have speed issues. Pressing "R" to make my units run or walk instead of charge will quite often turn the battle speed from normal to fast. I know that "R" and "T" are next to each other (at least on my keyboard), but it´s not a case of pressing the wrong button, I double-checked that.

    Anyone else got strange stories from Patch 4 beta?

    nothing changed

    I only play on Legendary and didnt notice any morale changes, they're still there in patch 3

    but 1 thing

    OUR GENERAL HAS FALLEN... seriously, everytime I use Companion cavs to charge, my general dies..., and my cavalry unit was like 79/80 left

    many many times, 79/80, 159/160, the first fallen one is General...

    I'm experiencing the exact same thing but with foot soldier generals. I thought it was because of low zeal, but I checked and he should be fine, yet dies with the first bunch of guys in the unit as soon as they get into combat.

    the morale of the lvl 1 and lvl 2 units has been raised. this has been noted in the patch to make the battles last longer, since the morale of the higher tier units has been left largely untouched I havent experienced elite troops wavering with the loss of one soldier no matter how dear that annoying collection of pixels was to the unit

    CAI seems to use one more army stance now, raiding.

    So now I've seen forced march, fortify and raid. Haven't seen ambush yet though.
    It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

    1. A lot of units have higher hitpoints now (sigh)
    2. Fire missiles hurt moral, deal no damage
    3. Sling borkage- confirmed in an official post, they accidentally got turned into cannonballs
    4. precursor javelins borked
    5. "smart" guard mode formations that automatically turn to face attackers, often breaking your formation.
    6. Legionaries get loose formation! or I suppose they're technically just now getting access to regular formation.

    Those are some of the new changes

    Always makes me laugh how people who suck up to anything CA do spent ages saying how it`s fine that slings could take down Roman soldiers with shields, and the same were saying flags were great and would never be removed because it was a `design decision`.

    Now those are gone, these same people will go quiet because Ca has deemed fit to change it.

    The moral of the story? Never let people, who only suck up to the Dev come what may, harass and put you off when you know you`re right about a situation.

    Still plenty needs fixing though.

    whatever, your lack of knowledge regarding slingers, their uses and archers of the period is lacking a lot.

    what CA acknowledge was the mistake on the rebounce damage that they added accidentally on patch 4.

    slingers are fine.

    aside with the post usual dripping insanity with a mix of unfounded superiority, what does that have with CA posting that they mistakenly added the rebounce effect for slingers on patch 4?

    what exactly bouncing is? I don't play with the beta but will I see something strange with slingers once the patch is released?

    I notice a thing, I had suspects but now I have a confirmation ,we are not beta testers, we are alfa or pre alfa testers, I think they need 10GBs of new stuff to made this game acceptable.

    It might be that they increased the AI moral buff for very hard.

    Sieges are really tuff without equipment... and the AI actually stand and fire on their walls... simply love it!!! Almost lost half of my army rushing a Siege when I should have waited for my equipment to be built... probably the best siege battle I have had in ages!!!

    Sieges aren`t bad if YOU`RE the one attacking the walls, especially without siege engines. The AI knows to at least block the Gate! The problem is when the AI is attacking you`re walls. Then you`ll see totally broke.

    Also considering what that AI guy said it`s not even close to being better than say, RTW or MTW2 sieges at all.

    Yeah I have noticed most of these

    -Slings are godly, arrows and javelins do 0 damage
    -Generals die like flies
    -Forced march can't reinforce but the AI still acts like it does

    BTW slingers could take down heavy infantry, although not testudo. Not saying this game is historically accurate of anything.

    forced can and will reinforce if you autoresolve thus the AI uses it and I too
