Icon11 The Expansion Pack Speculation Thread

As you can guess, the expansion pack for R2TW is already well underway.

    Let's speculate.

Personally, I would LOVE another Barbarian Invasion. BI was well thought out. It starts when the Western and Eastern Roman empires are permanently divide by the Valentinian/Valens split. From this point on the two imperial courts at Milan and Constantinople will never again be the same entity, and it is also at this point, after the annihilation of Valen's Eastern legions at Adrianople that the military superiority of the Roman army goes into terminal decline.

The period is extremely dynamic as the fate of the Empire rests on a knife edge. There is also a large diversity of military cultures and fighting styles.

There's also a natural endgame where one half fo the Empire needs to gain control over the other half to reunite the Empire as the ultimate step to victory.

You can also throw in some key political/religious choices: Republic or Empire, Christianity or Paganism etc.

Other than this there's really just not too many other options frankly. Something earlier set in the Classical Greek period would be rather limited in scale and not that exciting. And anything earlier than that would be too obscure for most players to identify with.
This is my signature. Isn't it awesome?

I'd prefer to see something closer to how Civ5 did there's. So rather than a new time period, significant new features added to the main game such a renegade general's, army loyalty, better senate system, trade system etc. Maybe they could do mini-campaigns for additional DLC as well, similar to Rise of the Samurai, but on a smaller scale, so you could get the Classical Greek period.

I agree. It's also how paradox does it. A new era is fun and all but modders can and will do it better if the mechanics are there.

I desire there to be no expansions, but just a complete overhaul of the game. THEN I'm more than willing to discuss an expansion.

Barbarian Invasion and Alexander have been done. I'd like to see an expansion cover the Greco-Persian wars where the Persian empire TWICE attempted to subjugate Greece (e.g. Battle of Marathon, Thermopylae, Salamis, and Plataea).
