Default Loadingtimes and SSD / RAM

Hi all, overall my performance in ROME II is pretty ok for my rig, but the loading times are very long. Iam talking about loading into a camobat, and after it, back into campaign map, aswell as loading a saved game.

now i wonder, how much would those times be reduced by an install on a SSD, and will more RAM help?

    My specs:

    Core2quad Q9550@3,8 GHZ
    4GB DDR2 880 MHZ
    HD 7850

    greetings

the loading times will get lower with an SSD, there isnt a real worth to get more ram to it

I'd add another 4 gigs of ram over the SSD

    yes i run 64 bit WIN7

hmm, even if only 2.2 GB RAM are used by the system while running ROME II?
i can hardly beleve how more RAM would help, but thats why i ask. the thing is, id rather be certain...

    tnx for the replys

its simple more ram = better overall performance specially since 8-16gb is the perfect spot on win 7. however you are going to buy outdated ram and in skylake in 2 years DDR4 is going to be the norm, so the only thing you are going to be able to bring to that new system is the SSD. if you are going for a notebook on skylake probably not even that since notebooks are the ones leading the charge on changes towards new parts and tech on pc

So Rome 2 is using 2GB or your entire system including Rome 2 is using 2GB? If your system can't put what it needs into RAM, it'll dump it into a paging file on one of your harddrives (i.e. slow). So if you see that you have unused RAM, then you're right; you probably wont benefit from an additional 4GB.

Lucky man, all I got is a Q9450. The only reason I got 8mb of RAM is I found the the extra 4mb in a toss out sale.

Really, for more performance the stuff to upgrade is the Mobo and CPU. The HD 7850 will be severely throttled by the CPU and the old type 2 PCI - E slots on your Mobo.

the 7850 wont be throttled by the pcie 2.0 slots in use

if all things are equal, yes.
however there is no core 2 quad that comes with pcie 3, so you wont enjoy that

Well point taken, checking up it only makes a difference in SLI.

I have 8 gig of ram and was loading rome 2 off a 7200 rpm hd and it would take forever. Copied it to my SSD and load times were cut by more then half. SSD will make it faster,

I was playing next to a friend last weekend and he doesn't have an SSD. Load times were about half as long or even better with an SSD.

Up your RAM to 8GB, Rome and everything else take up as much as ~6GB on my system. Then if you still have money to spare, grab a SSD. Ofc my spec is different, but both battle and campaign map loading time are around 10s for me, which is a day and light improvement from S2 on the very same configuration.

Legacy RAM is usually rather pricey, I only bothered because I got the extra 4GB at 75% off! The big issue is the CPU even though those early quads stand up well for their age.

I have a 6800 radeon and 8 gigs of ram installed but only 4 gigs work. I have an SSD, and play in ultra, but once in a while it says you have no more ram
I use windows 7 64 bit. In task manager I look and see and about 3.36 ram or 80-90% is being used up. So my bottle neck is my ram, because my stupid MSI mother board has a broken ram slot after I RMA'd it for freezing all the time.

Go the SSD route if you can afford it. Everything loads up quicker for R2 and all your other programs.

I use 2 ssd drives one for storage. The main one is a Samsung pro, rome 2 runs off that. I have 16 gb of vengeance ram and two gtx 680 vid cards and a the new intell haswell processor oc'd to 4.1 if that matters. My game performance and load times have smoothed out with the patches. Turns spin by fast. I only occasionaly see some stutter for a few seconds on large battles (40 units) with weather effects. And I am not sure if that is the game or steam to be honest since I don't play off line. The graphics are tuned up to whatever the NVidia game performance software suggested, it's quite high. Unfortunately I can't compare these load times with a non ssd system since my old one can not even play Rome 2.
