Never seen so many people play a game they seem to hate for so long

It's really odd to me. When I hate a game I cut my losses and quit. I don't keep playing a game I hate just to try to get some value out of my purchase.

For my part, I think Rome 2 is flawed but still fun. It definitely needs improvement but I enjoy playing it while it's being worked on.

I was loving it until patch 3 removed the always on guard mode and made it impossible for melee units to maintain a battle line. According to Patch 4 notes, CA is aware of the problem and will fix it. I'll just wait for them.

Because there is a continuous stream of patches and mods. Mods are the only thing that kept me going for a bit. But I haven't played in a week and don't mind. I'm just disappointed in how it turned out. Not what I expected. I mean I knew there would be bugs, but the game play changes are just a let down. Many for no real purpose.

Got less than 25 hours in the game at this point which is pathetic. Really just check in here to see if a lot of people are claiming some improvements worth my time and hoping I didn't flush $45 down the toilet.

well I started my second Macedon campaign with mods, and its straight up lovable. again it got bugs and AI sometimes shiet itself.

I'm just waiting on the full conversion mods now. Might get a good one in a year, though unlikely since the engine is useless and very locked down. I feel like I've been robbed by conmen.

Good job Roma Surrectum is still fun after 4 years, and I still haven't gotten around to playing as any Greek Successor or Barbarian factions yet.

I have almost 300 hours of game play and have played everyday since September the 3rd, I accepted the game in its flawed state the first 3 days because I was still discovering them and used mods from that point on and never looked back, I am not waiting for patches/fixes, I am enjoying the game/playing it and burning my self out in the process until which a time comes where I give it a rest for a few months same as every TW game I've ever played.

I'm hopeful that the AI will at least be setup to a playable level. But to expect it to be award-winning and revolutionary is far-fetched. So, yeah, I'm taking it ROME 2 as a Shogun 2 mod, and will be keeping it that way forever.

it was the same with empire when it was first released
Sure Rome 2 has its faults
but i guess alot of people are making issues about sometimes irrelevant things in the game just for the sake of complaining
there is one even complaining that his romans do not look like the hollywood romnd from history channel
or another one that navel battles are unbalanced or that making issues because his 5 year old pc can not handle the game at ultra settings etc etc

like i said the game isn't perfect but it is good
CA is one of those companies that while they not the best in product quality control their games eventually shine and have a large fan base , almost exactly the same as Bethesda and their elder scrolls game

If I were a student still I'd play thru the crap currently on offer, still better than boredom. But now that time is precious I have given up with this game (played 6 hours total I think since day1, I usually clock up 300 hours on a TW game). I will give it another crack when it's out of beta and the mods have caught up with the CA patches with a billion tweaks

I got fots and started playing that, as i missed out on it.

I tried to like rome II, but i cant. A stream of mods, and the promise of patches kept me going to start with, but.
I don't know. seems sad. I hope rome II can be made better.

So much done with seasons in fots, what the hell rome II?

thats probably the biggest problem imo, 1tpy, no seasons + no family tree = we dont really care.

well like elder scrolls, they dont have any direct competition at all. Just bad knock offs, unless you consider games with only a campaign map to be any competition. Personly I dont since the tough part to get right is on the battlefield.

Its a love/hate relationship, I love the campaign map, army traditions, the era itself, sweet combat animations, enemies crying as they are killed, provincial management, and the MODS! I hate the lack of toggleable guard mode, the still idiotic siege AI on walled cities, lack of family tree, inability to attack cities that have been blockaded, etc etc.

I'm having a great time, and whatever I don't like I rely on mods... but mods are limited. Everything I can't fix myself - I hate.

So yeah, just how it is

Just get the 2 or 4tpy mods, thats what I use. Shame about the seasons though and the lack of family tree. To make it bearable I just try to use my imagination. It sucks but fk, wat can we do while we wait for CA to get their sh-t together

1) Epic battles are fun with 10k vs 10k?Well, there no epic battles because optimization is horrible

2) Maybe interesting game mechanics? I dont see any. Such important thing like sieges look like a joke. Naval warfare also is a joke.

3) Challenge, smart AI? No, it is not fun killing dumiest AI on the planet.

4) Role play is fun? No because they removed even such small basic thing as family tree

What else can be fun in this game? Economic management, diplomacy?


Immersion, atmosphere is fun? No, simply because seeing Iphone/Tablet PC UI in game about ancient period of time is not fun.

What is fun in Rome II? I also want to have fun because I bought this game and last time played it 3 weeks ago because it is boring crap. Is there any guides or brainwash movie so I can watch it and have fun? Seriously
