(v0.70)--------
Fifth release 4/17/05
Added packing ability and rewrote program.

I decided to write a program to extract all the sound files.

Here it is I thought I'd share, to extract the sound files do the following:
1) Copy from the zip file the files xdix.exe and extract_all_idx.bat to you data\sounds folder (in your RTW install dir)
2) Run extract_all_idx.bat
3) Sit back and wait while the program does its work
4) Listen to all the music, voices and other sounds

Have fun with it guys!

there's seems to be a problem with the exe-file.
nor are there any directories made.

I do run XP.

making the directory manually seems to help.

Are you trying to extract the game or demo sound files? If the game then right click on the .bat file click edit and remove "SFX.idx" from both the first and second lines and it should work. For some reason in the full game this file crashes the program, I'll take a look into when I get the chance.

the one for the demo didn't work for the full version of the game. This one is the right one for the full game right?

Also, do you know the triggers for what causes what to play? I noticed that the war chant is different than before because it has several different sayings at once. I've got some really cool sounds and war chants that I'm slowly creating.

Version 0.3 supports the full game, all the linking is done in the events.dat file which is only somewhat human readable.

i just used your program and works great, i was wondering if you could post the source code for it, or if you could, e-mail it to me at arrakis202@yahoo.com. The reason i ask for it is because i am a up and coming programmer and was wondering how your program works.

Hella piece of work, Vercingetorix! THANKS!!

Hey by any chance can you figure out the structure of the savegames or write an applet that extracts all the info? I want to make some utils that e.g. summarize current city income etc., but can't figure out the savegame structure.

Uploading the XIDX extractor in case other links become broken:

"If ye love wealth greater than liberty,
the tranquility of servitude greater than
the animating contest for freedom, go
home from us in peace. We seek not
your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch
down and lick the hand that feeds you,
and may posterity forget that ye were
our countrymen."
