Default coulld use a little help changing the ai's strategy

so, i know that you can change the building bias of the different nations... but what combination will best simulate a non-expansive nation?

cos right now im getting sick and tired of every nation in the world having some kind of megalomania and wanting to take over the world... sure some nations were very expansive...
    but not everyone!
most nations didnt actually expand as much as the ai does in RTW.

i heard somewhere that someone had some success "taming" the gauls with a fortified napoleon setting for the gauls...

but would that work for everyone?

btw. im not asking for every nation to not be expansive at all... im just asking for a way to stop them all from trying to steamroll across the world at a speed that would make alexander the great blush...

eeeh... well... ive read all that before... its what prompted me to write here... does anyone know what would be the best setting to keep the nations "in check" so to speak?

i just dont want them all to try to steamroll eachother completely every frikkin time...

Well, if you're just looking for advice, I recommend using a selection of craftsman, fortified, and sailor, and not bothering to change the troop production personalities. Just mix up craftsman and fortified, and use sailor where appropriate.

Right, you will have to restart. I have also noticed that blocking some paths with rebels or giving some settlements a huge rebel garrison might force the AI to go in the desired direction. Or to remain quiet until it can build some more units to force its way through the blocked path.

well, as i said before... i dont want to "delay" the ai or steer them in the "right" direction... i want them to behave somewhat like the nations of the time did...
ie. not expanding like madmen in every direction...
