Default Karamazovmm guide for the Hellenic, Roman, Punic and Eastern Factions

This is a simple guide that aims to help you manage your empire, so lets go for the start *this guide is still under construction!*

    Research

My first opening move is to get as fast as I can ballistas. Simply because they can give your armies a very large advantage in the field, I usually equip 4 units of ballista in my army and use mainly levy quality troops, and they will win even during the middle part of the campaign. The fights will indeed become tougher as time progresses, but you have a very cheap army and doesn't weight heavily on your poor starting economy.

After that I go for the lvl 3 library research, its usually 2 or 3 researches in the philosophy tree, and that will give you a very healthy boost in terms of research speed.

We researched the libraries and thus I usually focus on unlocking the lvl 2 factional barracks (in the romans case lvl 3 barracks), after that its pretty much economical research, get lvl 3 farms they are essential to you and depending on your faction, for example rome, you can get a lot of income while you get food as well with those ranches.

And here is the crux's, I put in every province capital a library of at least lvl 3, this gives you a very large and unfair tech advantage against the AI. Depending on the faction I have finished all the researches around 90bc, yes I have gone through the whole tech tree.

So I can't stress enough that you should focus on research and ways to speed that up.

    Economy

You don't have one. thats it.

At the start focus on getting food, because with food you get more growth in your town, with growth you can expand your cities and with that expansion you can actually start having an economy.

So there isn't actually nothing to do, try to get at least 30 of food, that basically means farms with more farms along with fishing ports.

When you have 3-4 provinces you can start paying more attention to what is going to be your economy.

So have no fear and tear down or convert those buildings to make you rich, the idea at the start is to always have around 30-50 food as surplus, because sometimes when you conquer a province the AI built so much things that consume food that if you don't exempt it from taxes you will starve. So yes thats the trick at the start of the campaign and the initial conquering rush, as you exempt provinces of taxes they don't consume food, which in turn you don't receive money for that province, but at least there is no raise in revolt or your armies starving to death.

I will detail more on provinces specialisation so you can rest assured that I will cover the what to build and what to tear down.

    Province Specialisation

    Military Province

lets go with rome for example, normal as the setting and italia as the province.

-10 food from the basilica equestris

-10 public order from the basilica exercitoria

-10 public order from the armidoctor

-10 public order from the doctor saggitariorum (not that anyone would use there)

-10 public order from the barracks

-10 food from the auxiliary barracks if you use it, I don't.

-10 public order from the armoured

-10 public order from the fabrica

lets say that you are going to recruit on velathri given that its extremely beneficial from the squalor perspective and you get wine, so lvl 4 is -8 food

assuming all settlements are lvl 2 except velathri, you get -6 food

    lets do the math:

    Public order = +10 (normal settings) - 50 (from recruitment and training) - 10 (doctor saggitoriorum) = -40 or -50

lets assume that you managed to build the circus maximus (+30 public order), you are still missing -10, so for that you need to build 2 nymph temples one lvl 2 and one lvl3 so that means:

    Public Order = +10 (normal settings) - 50 (from recruitment and training) + 42 (circus maximus + nymphs) = +2

and if I apply tax... it becomes +1 or -2 or -5, thus needing you to build up the other nymph temple consuming more -4 of food.

Thus the buildings are distributed as follows:

ROME: basilica equestris + basilica exercitoria + armidoctor + circus maximus

VELATHRI: barracks + auxiliary barracks (so you get the bonus for army recruitment slots)

ARIMINUM: armoured + nymph temple lvl 2

NEAPOLIS: fabrica + nymph temple lvl 3

    FOOD = -14 (settlements) - 28 (equestris + auxilia barracks + nymphs) = - 42

that basically means that for that province I need a province of at least 4 settlements to provide food for it.

in terms of monetary worth the gain there would be negligible around 2k maximum per turn
