Again, smaller armies.
I've been coming to these forums since I started playing Shogun 2 and I've seen a few people ask for a mod that reduces the amount of units (regiments) in a stack. Not less men in a unit. This has been met with either no response at all or criticism. I've yet to complete a campaign on this game, because I lose all interest in it once all the armies become full stacks. It's just not fun for me to have so many units. I have the game on my laptop and I can't connect it to the internet due to some crazy virus that overrides everything with audio commercials as soon as I do. Even if I could figure out how to navigate the tools CA supplies, it would be a pain to get them on it, so I went back to the post I tried a long time ago with advice on using the ESF editor, transferred it via flash drive to my laptop and followed the instructions.
-- To have more than 20 units in a stack: open 'saved game' in EsfEditor, CAMPAIGN_ENV / CAMPAIGN_MODEL, you will find 1 number with 20 (max units in a stack) with another under directly under it with 8 (should be max ships in a stack for vanilla), upper is land and lower is ship'. --
I ran into the same issue I had last time. It goes right to my saved games, which has a list of save game files and nothing else. There's no "campaign_env" or "campaign_model." It won't open any of the save game files, so I scoured the files in my Shogun 2 directory with nothing being accessible via the ESF editor. I tried it myself, because apparently nobody wants to do this. I couldn't figure it out, so now I'm asking here. Can someone make a made that limits units per stack at least in the Sengoku Jidai campaign to 12 and if possible limit units per faction in a single battle to 24? I'm not the only one that wants this. Here's a link showing a full thread on it.

I would greatly appreciate any help on this, whether it be doing it for me or writing out comprehensive directions on what to do about the ESF editor.

Re: Again, smaller armies.
I should probably state that I've been playing since day of release and that I'm already using a mod that increases unit cost and upkeep by 200%. After I or the AI get 4 territories, though, it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Hi TwelveStep: I just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one. In fact there are quite a few guys in my periphery who are hoping I will be able to mod this for Rome 2. The problem I seem to be encountering is that changing the unit max per army/fleet values only seems to have an effect in game when editing a save game file but not when editing a starpos.esf file for inclusion in a mod pack.

If you figured it out, I would be extremely grateful to you if you share. It wouldn't be so bad if the unit variations were as large as medieval 2.

How are you editing the save-game? I can't seem to figure out how to edit anything on this game.

Well, in principle this is sound idea - i.e. you have a unit which works as your main line, i.e instead of 4 - 6 units in the main line you actually command just 1, you have your archer contingent, cavalry contingent (or 2) and reserves / flanking force.
The trouble is I'm not sure AI could handle this sort of setup... also I don;t know if it is even possible to reduce the stack unit cap at all...

Hmmm... Never edited a save before mate. I only ever use Pack File Manager and MMS to create mods. Have you ever used the PFM before?

Re: Again, smaller armies.
I've tried to no avail. I either haven't been able to load anything into the programs I've used to edit them or I haven't been able to implement whatever I have been able to change to take affect. I did find this, though.

It's got a file in it that increases unit price and upkeep by 40% that seems to stack with a 200% upkeep mod I had. Add to it a increased garrison size mod and it slows down steamrolling from factions, limiting the amount of money they get, so that nobody can afford full stacks and certainly not multiple full stacks. It's worked out really well for me so far.
