QQ regarding NTW1 vs. NTW2 from a total NOOB

Quick question about the two mods: I prefer historical tactics rather than the glitzy graphics that RTW is know for. If I want historical accuracy, should I pick up MTW to play NTW1 which I hear is more refined, is the AI more stable. Currently I have RTW, but am not satisfied with its AI limitations. For some reason I am not allowed to search for MP games with RTW in hopes of getting a challnege, even though my cd-key is legit, so I was looking to revert to NTW1 as a better AI alternative. So, would picking up a copy of MTW1 be better for AI performance???
