Re: What does the "Survival Script" do in the game?
The survival script helps the AI factions to stay longer alive. You're playing with the normal garrison script, so that means a faction gets one or two armies with silver weapons/armor and some elite units. You can change garrison scripts before you start a game in the launcher under preferences. You can choose between the normal, five emperors (the hardest one), less garrison and more levies (self-explaned) and no garrison script.

Can I change the script if I'm in the middle of a campaign or do I have to start a new one ?

Yes, I think so. Didn't read any problems here. Should be safe.

Re: What does the "Survival Script" do in the game?
Right now i believe that the survival script only imposes neutrality to a faction reduced to one settlement. All AI faction became neutral to it. Even if the affected faction declares war it will be forced back to neutrality in the next turn. It is not perfect but i believe it will be further developed. It was not intended to to affect the player but right now it does. The scripted armies usually appear when some of the important faction cities are attacked. they are not survival script related.
