Older Versions
Version 3.0
VERSION 3.0
- New Leather & Brass Helmets for Generals.
- New Brass Lined/Bossed Oval Shields for Generals,
Auxiliaries & Cavalrymen. Furthermore, all Oval Shield
Leather textures have been improved.- New Brass/Bronze Lined/Bossed Republican style Shield
for Centurions and Praetorian.- New Round Shield for Leves, Velites and Equites.
- New Augustan Shield for Marian Legionaries, Veteran
Legionaries and First Cohort.- New Shield Patterns for Marian & Late Units. Design
Style continuing from previous Polybian Shield Patterns.
More Streamlined, I call it Clean Grit.- Auxiliaries now have Caucasian/Mediteranean looking
Soldiers in their Units. These new guys pass for Greeks,
Carthaginians, Iberians and Northern Barbarian Folk
(Though beards have had a trim, Romanisation and all)- Re-textured Roman Scorpion Artillery.
- Cloth/Tunic/Shield colours have been tweaked to add more
variety and realism.- Marian & Imperial Units have had their equipment tweaked
to look more uniformed whilst maintaining variety. This may
not be historically accurate, but I've decided to do this to show
more evolution from Polybian to Imperial. Example: Principes
wear Hamata and Breastplates, Legionaries wear all Hamata
and finally Legionary Cohorts wear all Segmentata.- Re-added Prometheus's Height fix which was updated by
Mech_Donald.- Hex Shields removed and replaced by Oval Shields. The
Rims are in my opinion too thick in comparison to what I
see on the internet. I will try to fix this at a later date if I
have the time. For now, all Cavalrymen use the Oval Shield
models as they did in Vanilla.- Available on Steam Workshop.
- As usual other stuff I can't remember.

Version 2.2
VERSION 2.2
- Decided to "Streamline" Polybian Shield Patterns to look better and
"Fit In" with other factions.- Apparently during the Early Republic, the shields were State-Owned.
Therefore, everyone uses the same shields regardless of class/wealth.
Differentiation is in Armour worn as this was provided by the Soldier.- Updated DB Tables for Patch 5.
- Removed table containing Prometheus's Height Data as I suspect
that it is causing issues with Patch 5. Will re-include (with new
permission) it if he ever updates it.
New Shields - Click Here for Details
Infantry Shields
Round Shields
Version 2.1
VERSION 2.1
- New Shields for Leves/Velites, Hastati, Principes and Triarii.
- New mixture of headgear for Velites.
- Updated tables for Patch 5.
New Polybian Equipment - Click Here for Details
Leves & Velites
- Leves and Velites have more interesting but still plain looking shields
- Decided to thrown in bronze helmets for Velites to wear to add
variety. Also thought it's ridiculous that a whole unit would wear
wolf-pelts (save the wolves!)
Equites
- Nicer shields for Equites
Infantry
- A lot of new shields for the three classes of Infantry
- The Bull and a Wolf didn't make the cut, can you spot the Bull?
Version 2.0
VERSION 2.0
- New Shields, Breastplates and Helmets for the Roman Generals.
- New Shields for Standard Bearers, Auxiliary Infantry/Cavalry,
Praetorian Guard/Cavalry, Legatus and Legionary Cavalry- New outfit for Marian/Imperial Centurions
- New Lorica Hamata (3) and Squamata (1)
- Most Soldier's Equipment have been updated to look more diverse
in their units- Auxiliary Infantry/Cavalry have been updated to look more
multicultural but retain their Standard Roman Equipment- And as usual, other stuff I can't remember!
Generals & Officers - Click Here for Details
Generals
- Two themes; Leather and Brass (More will be included in future updates).
- Three Shield Patterns (I forgot to take a screenshot of the third one).
- The Brass Helmet (Scipio's Helmet) I left untouched as I thought CA Artists did
an excellent job and already matched very well with my Brass Breastplate.- The Art surrounding the Shield Boss originally comes from here:
http://www.earlybritishkingdoms.com/...et_bacchus.gif- The Pattern seen (bottom left) inspired by this image:
http://legvi.tripod.com/sitebuilderc...a_peronis8.jpg
Centurions
- Textured onto chainmail (oldschool style).
- Decided to use only Rings instead of Medallions as when the Rings stretch
with the rest of the model it is less obvious (Thoroughly tested).- No side crests currently in game suits the Roman Coolus type Helmets
hence I stuck with the forward lining ones.- Overall I'm happy with this one because it gives the "Centurion Factor" and
will be a good placeholder until CA releases better ones in the future.
Standard Bearers
- All new Squamata texture on the Hamata Model.
- Two new shield patterns (Forgot to screenshot the 2nd).
Polybian Units - Click Here for Details
Hastati
- Tunic reverted back to Vanilla Roman Tunic.
- Wear two types of Breastplates;
Square Breastplate & Half-Cuirass.- In combination with the two tunic colours
they look quite diverse in their units.
Principes
- New Hamata Textures on the Hamata model (sans Cingulum).
- Two types of Hamata Textures and one Half-Cuirass creates
more diversity in unit equipment.- Those who wear the Half-Cuirass also wear Shin-Guards to
show that they are better protected and more combat efficient
than the Hastati.- I have made a lot of effort to ensure the new textured Belts &
Crossbelts have minimal stretching when the models move.- Overall I believe the new Hamata textures gives the soldiers that
wear Lorica Hamata a more realistic and rugged look (whereas the
vanilla one looks too plain).
Triarii
- Mostly Musculata with a Red Tunic worn underneath.
- Mix between one of the Polybian Hamata and the
Half-Cuirass (with Shin-Guards) for others in the units.- Overall shows wealthier and more heavily armoured
citizen soldiers.
Equites
- Mix between Musculata, Hamata and Half-Cuirass (with
Shin-Guards) creates good equipment diversity in the unit.- Overall shows wealthier citizen cavalrymen wearing more
expensive and protective armour.
Marian Units - Click Here for Details
Auxiliary Infantry
- Changed skin to show that the Auxiliaries are not Romans and at the
same time showing a diverse culture in one unit.- Right now the faces and skin colours pass for Eastern/North African/African/
Greek nationalities.- Will try to add Northern Europeans into the mix in the future, but that will be
tricky and require a lot of work. We'll see.
Auxiliary Cavalry
- Equipment is a mix between the new Hamata styles and what I
personally call Cavalry Squamata.- Screenshot below shows the new Auxiliary Shield Patterns in
more detail.
Legionaries
- Like the Polybian Hamata these Legionaries sport new Hamata
textures (Cross Belts etc.) but with the Cingulum (I know the
word is used for the whole belt but it's better than saying;
Dangling Straps of Leather with Metal Buttons). I apologise
for not knowing the proper term, I tried to look for it but couldn't
find any information.- As with the Polybian units, these new Legionaries look more realistic
and rugged. Also equipment diversity is always good (without losing the
standardized equipment look the Marian Reforms brought on)
Veteran Legionaries
- Same Equipment as Legionaries except helmets are plumed to show a higher rank.
- Their shields (same as Version I) show a higher rank as well.
First Cohort
- Same Equipment as the Vets.
- Their shields show a higher rank and the fact they hold the main
standard in the Army (The Eagle). Well they don't yet but they do
upgrade to the Eagle Cohort.
Praetorian
- Same Equipment as the Vets & First Cohort.
- They also wear capes to battle to show their elite status.
- Their shields show a higher rank and the symbol the Praetorians
used at that time; The Scorpion.- By the way I have never and will never field Praetorian units
of any kind, so all this effort was for you guys, the community.
I know a lot of you like to field them like they do in Hollywood.
Praetorian Cavalry
- Same equipment as the foot Praetorian except Cavalry Squamata
was added into the mix.- New Hexagonal Shields with new Patterns and Praetorian Scorpion
symbols. This was a tricky shield to fix (I won't go into details, but other
texture artists may know what I did to fix the issue).- Again this one was for you guys (no Praetorian for moi), hope you enjoy it.
Imperial Units - Click Here for Details
Legionary Cohort
- Good mix of equipment. Majority Lorica Segmentata, with red or plain tunics
worn underneath. Minority of one of my new Hamata in the mix to vary it up.- All Legionaries in the unit wear the Imperial Coolus and Gallic helmets (instead
of the old Coolus Helmets in the mix). The Marian Coolus absolutely does not
match the Segmentata.- I think I've achieved a realistic mixture of equipment for the Imperial Legionaries.
Evocati Cohort
- Same equipment as the Legionary Cohort.
- Shields show higher rank.
Eagle Cohort
- All soldiers wear Segmentata like Vanilla, except now there's a good
mixture of red and plain tunics worn underneath.- Eagles on shields to show status of guarding the Eagle.
Praetorian Guard
- All soldiers wear Segmentata like Vanilla, except now there's a good
mixture of red and plain tunics worn underneath.- Praetorian Scorpion symbols on shields.
- It always bothered me that these soldiers were wearing purple cloaks.
"it was an extremely expensive dye color to produce - but it is not common
knowledge that wearing the color purple was actually banned by anyone but
the emperor via the Roman Sumptuary Laws."
http://www.tribunesandtriumphs.org/r...n-clothing.htm- So now they wear a mixture of red and black cloaks (for you hollywood folk).
Legionary Cavalry
- A good mixture of the new Hamatas.
- They use hex shields (I don't know about accuracy but I just decided on that because
I remember them using it in Rome I).- They share the same shield patterns as the new Cavalry Officers.
Version 1.0
VERSION 1.0
This Mod contains multiple changes for the Roman Faction:
- Primary colour has been changed to a slightly lighter Red. This gives the clothing and shield base colour a more realistic* look.
- Clothing and tunic colours have been tweaked for soldiers so that the plainer colours (off-whites and dirty whites) are the majority, this to me is more realistic* and gives more diversity in units.
- Shield patterns have been re-done. Design decisions based on experience, research and artistic freedom. Final product looks more realistic* than vanilla.
- The three Roman General cuirasses that are used have been redone. Design decisions based on experience, research and artistic freedom.
- Some crests have been re-textured to make them sharper looking.
- Some units have been tweaked. They now sport different accessories; chest armour, neck scarf, helmets, crests etc. Design decisions based on experience, research and artistic freedom.
- Other changes that I can't remember at the moment.
- I have also integrated Prometheus's Height & Hair fix; Plebs, Leves and Artillery Crew's hair re-textures are done by him. Furthermore, all data concerning height was researched and implemented by him. Thank you Prometheus for allowing me to include it in this mod.
*The use of the word realistic; Realistic in MY opinion.
If anyone encounters any bugs or have any requests, please let me know. I plan on doing re-colours and re-textures of other factions/cultures when I have the time. I enjoyed doing this mod (brought back memories of Rome I modding) and hope you enjoy it too.
Note: Compatibility with other mods unknown.

Compatibility Advice
Compatibility Information - Click Here for Details
Note that the advice/information below is only applicable if you are using
Version 3.0 or Earlier.
Please note that the designs I have made in my mod work with the colours
I have chosen and may not work with others. If you want to make this mod
compatible with other mods that do not modify the textures or models of
the Roman Faction, but want to keep the colours that came with my Pack,
download Daniu's PFM and follow the instructions below:
1) Open my Pack file (KAZIELS_ROMANS_V3) in PFM.
2) Open the DB Tree.
3) Delete any of the following tables (if they conflict):
Faction_Uniform_Colours_Tables:
Deals with Colours that are used for shields, clothes, etc.
Unit_Variants_Colours_Tables:
Deals with Individual Units Colours.
Unit_Variants_Tables:
Deals with Soldier Heights and Unit Cards.
Then save the Pack file. There should now only be the
RigidModels and VariantMeshes Trees in my Pack File.
4) Open the conflicting Mod's Pack file.
5) Search for the Tables you just deleted in my Pack:
Faction_Uniform_Colours_Tables
Unit_Variants_Colours_Tables
6) Inside Faction_Uniform_Colours_Tables find the 128th row named "rom_rome".
Insert these numbers (left to right):
139 - 13 - 4 - 222 - 209 - 169 - 121 - 51 - 51
7) Inside Unit_Variants_Colours_Tables find the three rows (5,6 & 7)
For all three rows, insert these numbers (left to right):
4 - 13 - 139 - 169 - 209 - 222 - *skip soldier* - 51 - 51 - 121
8) The Unit_Variants_Tables has nothing to edit. You have to make a choice
between Prometheus/Mech_Donald's data or the conflicting mod's one.
That should fix any compatibility issues. If issues remain feel free
to contact me in the forums. I will try my best to help as many people as I
can when I have the time.
NOTE
If anyone is planning to integrate my work into their mods/projects, please ask for permission first.
This is because it is respectful. Furthermore, I would like to know how the projects using my work
look/work/play like when they are finished. Please report to me if you suspect my work has been
used/copied without my permission/credit given.
Thanks,
Kaziel Bonn.
