Default Any mods out there that improve crusades?

Actually I like the crusading idea a lot, but it has so many flaws, I wonder why it was not fixed.

    1) Joining a crusade only gives you significant advantages, free upkeep, great units.

    2) Pope calls crusades against christian factions way too often, unless you beg him to target muslim factions for once.

    3) Defending against crusade/jihad seems useless, best strategy ( and most boring one) I found is to give the settlement to the attackers and then take it back.

Byg nerfs the crusades hard as far as I know, but I've only got one or two campaigns played with BGR IV, with his mod it seemed pointless to join crusades.

Is there any mod that rebalances crusades?

    1. Cant be changed
    2. You can change Crusade targets but you cant change if the pope excommunicates a faction
    3. Not sure what you want done with that.

Crusading for the most part is hard coded.

Yeah it would be good if someone could remove pretty much all European cities from the crusades target list because in my games it's extremely rare to find crusades directed against anyone other than excommunicated catholics.
Under the patronage of Rhah and brother of eventhorizen.

I rebalanced crusades again for BGRV. I'm not aware of other mods that tinker with crusades.

Compared to IV, they are easier to manage financially in that with management you can avoid nobles giving all their money away/being overtaxed until the crusade is joined because you can assign enough property to them to ensure a good income for them if you want. This means you can avoid rebellions if you think.

There are more nobles in a financial and military position to defend the empire whilst the faction leader is away, if he decides to go.

Other nobles can go and complete the crusade, whilst in IV it usually meant the FL was forced to go. Though the FL needs to go if you don't want any crusade tax for the duration of the crusade, as before.

Compared to vanilla, there is no preposterous crusade movement bonus.

Movement rates in BGRV are also lower than st steel by default as well so armies don't appear as if by magic out of nowhere.

Crusades are more epic in time and undertaking.

Though the crusaders free upkeep bonus can't be removed, I countered it by awarding crusader targets with a similar bonus, who we can assume would be just as determined to defend as the crusaders are to invade.

There are no huge pools of mercenary crusaders to conjure up.

The manpower system helps prevent loaded armies of pure elites benefitting fro the free upkeep. Likewise the AI is restricted in the number of stacks it can send by their lack of financial bonuses.

As BGRV controls authority levels it also reduces authority to a known level rather than an extreme one for failure to join. Likewise it can be countered To an extent (for example, keeping the FL close to the capital to manage the empire), but not beyond a certain level so it won't become a bonus. You can't build up massive levels of authority which would effectively make authority penalties redundant.
