Hoplites with spear and sword that use only spears when in phalanx.

Seen a few of these threads, and I got hoplites to use both spear and sword, but the problem is they also have mixed weapons when phalanx is activated. I tried looking at pikemen but couldn't find files related to the defensive abilities.
Also, I'm trying to make the Spartans fewer in number (per unit) but with much higher stats, just for fun, but stats seem to be capped at around 100, is there any way to increase that?
